tips on setting up a server

currently cost nothing since i'm only tinkering about working out what i'm after & how it all works at the minute. am just using an old shuttle with 3.4ghz P4 CPU and a pair of 250gig WD Caviar SATA drives with an evaluation copy of windows home server

once i'm happy with a set-up i''ll put together something more appropriate, i'll probably give this until the 30 day trial is up then try something else....liking the look of kmac's freeNAS box so might try that out

definitely agree on needing a gigabit switch tho, transferring data is painfully slow across my current network
