    ADSL2+ here I come!

Got an email from Zen this morning to tell me BT had moved my connection onto their 21CN platform meaning my line is now ADSL2+ capable.

Been through their account regrading process and I should be changed over on Monday.

When I moved in, BTs checker estimated a 6Mbit connection on my line, I sync at between 7.5 and 8Mbit with my Draytek. I wonder what I'll get on ADSL2+?

    Re: ADSL2+ here I come!

I wish Zen would crack on with mine, but patience is a virtue.

If you get 7mb on an ADSL max line you must live in the exchange so I'm gonna guess exactly double.... 14mb?

edit.... no I don't mean double do I.. I mean similar precentage of 7 /8 so 17.5mb doh!

Waiting for mine - I dont think my exchange migrates until early next year

My ADSL speeds are similar to yours, Funksatr, so I'll be interested to hear what you get after the regrade!

Edit - just checked Sam Knows - and the "!CN date is showing as "Not available" Ah well, patience, patience...

    Triple, since 24Mb/8Mb = 3

    That would give you 3 * 7Mb = 21Mb

    Or via your method 7/8 = 87.5%

    That would give you 24Mb * 87.5% = 21Mb

Depends if you take ADSL2+ as 20Mb or 24Mb I guess. More and more these days I see it advertised as 20 rather than 24, but I don't know why.

    Re: ADSL2+ here I come!

For starters the BT ADSL2+ network is 20mbit max, so I'm never going to get 21mbit

Also, ADSL2+ tails off faster than ADSL does.

This graph is a good illustration:

Just got a confirmation email back from Zen, apparently a BT engineer needs to swap me over at the exchange, which will take 5-7 days, they will email me when it is done.

I'm going away for a few days on Monday, so you never know, it might be done by the time I get back at the end of the week

Hmm, don't like the look of that graph too much

We're moving over in March/April to ADSL2+ at work, theoretically, so I'm just hoping that it's going to make some kind of a discernible difference to our line speed... currently 1.5Mb at best

    Re: ADSL2+ here I come!

Unless BT are using ReADSL2+, then you aren't going to see much improvement in downloads. Uploads might be a little better though.

yep, I went to ADSL2+ and my download speed stayed exactly the same and I'm about 3 miles as the crow flies from my exchange (3.5Mbit) but my upload speed doubled to 0.8Mbit

    Re: ADSL2+ here I come!

It's not an automatic upgrade. The Exchange has to be upgraded, and your ISP has to be on the new network. After that they can migrate the line to the new network before finally migrating you connection onto the ADSL2+ equipment on that network.

Pretty sure many ISPs won't be doing it just yet.

My exchange was converted early last year, so it's taken a while.
