    USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter.

I'm looking for a USB ethernet adapter, the majority of the ones I've looked at seem to be USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 Full Speed, i.e. 12Mbps which isn't fast enough for 100Mb/sec ethernet. I need more than 12Mbps because I'm connecting to a 24Mbps internet connection.

Does anybody know of the existance of a USB ethernet adapter which is USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, i.e. 480Mbps.

I picked one up off ebay for about £10 inc.P&P and it works perfectly. I'd post a URL but because I have less then 5 posts I can't, just search on Ebay for "USB Ethernet adaptor" or "Gigabit USB" and you'll find plenty of results.

Is it definitely USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, i.e. 480Mbps? Many USB 2.0 devices are not 480Mbps. When USB 2.0 was introduced, anybody wanting to sell a USB 1.0 or 1.1 device found it difficult because the older devices were perceived to be obsolete. There are 3 different speed rates for USB 2.0, Hi-Speed (480Mbps), Full Speed (12Mbps) and Low Speed (1.5Mbps), this means that devices that were previously USB 1.1 could be relabelled as USB 2.0 Full Speed as long as they passed the USB Forum's tests.

That D-Link card is described as being USB 2.0 HiSpeed, so it will do the job, assuming I can get a hold of one. I wonder what the Linux driver support will be like.

Apparently there are a number of USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices.....

    ASIX AX88172
    D-Link DUB-E100,
    Hawking UF200,
    Netgear FA120
    Belkin F5D5055

and, they're supported by a driver that has been built into the linux kernel for some time.
