    Changing DD-WRT Mac Address

Currently in my flat I have a Linksys WRT54GS v5.1 running DD-WRT firmware in wireless repeater mode. A couple of days ago I bought a second WRT54GS v5.1 (used, already with DD-WRT on it) to work as a wireless network bridge so I could connect my freesat box to access iplayer through it. They work well independantly, but when they are both on together things mess up.
Having checked they both are showing the same DD-WRT default Mac addresses for hardware/wired/wireless, so i guess thats is whats causing the problems.
Does anyone know how I can change the Mac address on these routers (in laymans terms if possible!)
    Thanks!

    Re: Changing DD-WRT Mac Address

If it is possible, it should be an admin function as part of the router configuration/setup. But yes, two devices with the same MAC address will cause problems.

MAC address "should" be globally unique! The first three bytes are mfr specific, last three are device specific - although when the user can change them, that global uniqueness starts to look a bit flaky but certainly no two devices on the same layer 2 device should have identical MAC addresses.

    Re: Changing DD-WRT Mac Address

I think the non-unique mac address is due to the DD-WRT firmware flash?

    Re: Changing DD-WRT Mac Address

Yeah the DD-WRT flashing gives the device a new, default, MAC address. It is this newly assigned MAC that I need to change, but im not sure if I can after the devices have been flashed, or if it has to be set during the preperation for flashing.
    Thanks for your replies

    Re: Changing DD-WRT Mac Address

Thanks guys, I found that I could allocate the router a MAC address for both wireless and WAN functions. If anyone else needs to know its in Setup/MAC Address Clone then enable and input the MAC address you want.
