    Talk Talk ADSL2+

Talk Talk have just launched its LLU down here, and are the first to offer ADSL2+. I'm on Virgin ADSL atm, and while the connection has been ok, their traffic shaping policy is a PITA. I have tried to get a figure on what i can download before getting capped, and after speaking to various snotty reps who could only refer me to pages which don't actually list a figure, they referred me to the Customer Service Executive, who was going to try and get me a figure and come back to me. That was ~ 3 weeks ago now! ( For anyone interested, the virgin reps could only tell me that only the top 5% of users would be capped, which is pretty useless to me. How the hell do i know what amount others are downloading! )

TalkTalk have just rang me, after 'noticing' i had been on their website to have a look, and the price and connection they are offering is quite tempting, and with them being new to the area, the contention ratio is really low, so should i give it a go?

Seen lots of similar questions on here about TalkTalk, and the general consensus is bad service and bad speed, but being in a slightly different position, i.e. no other ADSL2 providers here yet, what would you do?

    Thank you lovely Hexites!

    Re: Talk Talk ADSL2+

Well I've got asdl 2+ at home with Talk Talk and get fantastic speed pretty much all the time, and my dad pays for the cheapest package. I've not had any issues with lag when i've played games online unlike my virgin media cable connection I used to have at uni.

In contrast to digit, unless they improved TREMENDOUSLY, I'd would not deal with them for as long as there is another ISP in the UK. Check if Be/O2 might be available in your area in the foreseeable future. Remember that with TalkTalk, you'll be locked into a contract for 18 months.

    Re: Talk Talk ADSL2+

The only thing I don't like about TalkTalk is that they domn't allow the use of Bittorrent or any file sharing systems at all (there are ways roumd this though). On the plus side speed is always very good and I have never had any issues with gaming online with them either.

They've just upgraded our line to 11 MBPS or something which is quite nice and we opted for the 80 gig download limit instead of the 40.

    Re: Talk Talk ADSL2+

Thanks for the replies gents, now i am not quite sure what to think. Do cooling off periods actually allow you to connect in that time, to get an idea of what the speeds etc will be like, or are they still a con too?

Personally, I'd rather cut off my head than use Talk Talk - there's good reason as to their reputation. Good luck!

I know they had alot of teething problems but they have been voted the best by a few sites, I am tempted to move over as I'm not on ADSL2+

    Re: Talk Talk ADSL2+

Hmmmm, this is going to be a tough decision!

I'm in a (fake/fraudulent) contract with Virgin (that i didn't agree to, ) until July sometime anyway, so probably wont be able to make the switch just yet.

I asked Be if they have any plans to introduce their equipment in my area, their reply was as vague as can be expected i guess.

I'll have to ask the next talk talk rep i speak to about their customer service, and see what they have to say about it. If they say anything other ''yes it has been bad, we are aware of it and are working on it'' i think i'll probably have to find an alternative.

    Man i hate choosing ISP's!

Thanks for the replies so far chaps, keep em coming!

    Ummmm,

We have successfully estimated your Broadband speed results and these can be found below:
    Estimated Maximum Download Speed*: 7Mbps
Line enabled for "up to 20 Mbps": No
Results based on telephone number: 0198386****
    That'd be a no then!
