If I use my laptops wireless (11G 54Mbps) (built-in) and an edimax usb adapter (11N 150 Mbps) do they work together?

They'll both have their own connections with unique IP addresses - I'm not sure if the OS will allow to you to bridge wireless connections? If all your network activity is internet based I'd simply stick with the N and disable the onboard G.
If the did bridge it might be even worse, if you are connected to the same wireless access point there is only a certain about of wavelength, G uses it less well that N so your G card will squeeze the bandwidth of the N card. Bandwidth from an access point is shared between all its clients in networking term it is like a "hub" (a piece of kit people are unused to these days as switches are so cheap).
