Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

Got an email yesterday to say that our BT line is being upgraded on Monday. Don't think it will be for Infinity (estimate was the end of the year) but should at least double the speed of the ADSL we have (get about 6MBs Down/0.5Mbs Up) so hopefully that will at least double (estimate was 20Mbs down).

Just have to wait and see on Monday, would be great if it was Infinity though...

Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

Zak: Same thing happened with my FTTC order with plusnet -BT rejected it initially as no valid service to upgrade.

I'm on plusnet's 80/20 trial, but I'm only getting 41/10 anyway (according to the BT speedchecker my line won't do more than 46 down anyway, but should manage 20 up - however afaict my exchange is heavily contended...). Whether I keep it at the end of the trial depends very much on what the extra cost would be and whether they decide to offer a 40/10 service instead of a 40/2...

Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

Has anyone had any issues with BT upgrading their line to the superfast Infinity? I was initially getting 38/8 before I requested an upgrade about a week and a half ago. I was supposed to be getting 76/20 now but I've actually got 30/9!! So the upgrade has actually reduced my speed! Anyone else had a similar problem?

No similar problems here. But try power cycling all your equipment one time.

Tried all that a couple of times, just in case. No joy!

Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

Ten days after signing up for superfast Infinity, this is what I get. Completely crap. This is actually slower than what I was getting with normal Infinity! I'm now waiting on BT to get back to me after my WTF query.

Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

Hmmm - I'm with Zen and they say they are doubling speeds on 9/10 may "when work has been carried out". They deliver via BT in my area, so ii could be that whatever needs to be done hasn't yet been completed in your area.

Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

According to BT themselves, my area has been upgraded. Certainly they allowed me to sign up for a new contract but that doesn't mean anything of course!

Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

    just a small pointer....

some of the speed test servers can't handle the demand we're all puting on them!

For example... my local one, Milton Keynes, the BT engineer blanched at and said "well.. you can try it, but it'll not give you an accurate response at these speeds at all times of day.. it changes hugely".... and he was right. It showed mine at 16mb down at 1pm today! But right now (8pm) it shows

Hence me using a London server to test.

Coventry is always my go to server on SpeedTest.net. I also use http://www.vmspeed.com/ & http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/.

Re: BT Infinity speed double tomorrow

Still waiting for Infinity here but they did double our standard broadband. Have gone from 7Mbs down to 18Mbs which isn't a bad increase, certainly notice the difference. Shame upload is still rubbish though.

Microsoft has been terrible for me lately. Both at home on 40/10 and at work on 24Mb BT ADSL.

I've been getting around 1.2MB/s at best lately.......I even had to resort to downloading a copy of Windows Multipoint Server from Usenet while on-site recently because the Microsoft download was not only slow but kept dropping also.

The website states 54.5Mb/s download and 18Mb/s upload. Very happy with the new speeds:
