Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

it delivers a compressed html file to your browser and then your browser automatically incompresses it on the fly - thus saving you bandwidth.

"The idea is to compress data being sent out from your Web server, and have the browser decompress this data on the fly, thus reducing the amount of data sent and increasing the page display speed. There are two ways to compress data coming from a Web server, dynamically, and pre-compressed. Dynamic Content Acceleration compresses the data transmission data on the fly (useful for e-commerce apps, database-driven sites, etc.). Pre-compressed text based data is generated beforehand and stored on the server (.html.gz files etc)."

    http://webreference.com/internet/sof...p/compression/

you can test the difference compression would make on your site on this page here: http://www.ehyperspace.com/

from the prices - dream-hosting.co.uk looks the best value £40 per year for 24gb bandwidth a month and 2gb of webspace - 30gb per month would be £55 per year.

Pre compression sounds like a good idea. on the fly one seems like your ISP could complain about CPU usage. Another forum i frequent had their ISP complain about their website using up to much CPU time. It was lunarpages that complained saying they needed adedictated server for a lot of money. So they switched to someone else, so it could have just been a ploy to get more money.

The costs are really important, but think support and customer service. How are the suppliers doing on that front...

For what it's worth I have recently signed up with dream-hosting (four days). I have just submitted my first support query... I will let you know what happens.

Get the hosting-unlimited deal even cheaper on ebay. £17.99 for the Elite package instead of £59.95 per year.

When you check your domains details (on www.uk2.net or wherever), are you listed as the registered owner?

Go for hosting unlimited as they are a proper company, dream hosting do not have a telephone number or adress and are therefore probably just a 19 year old uni student who has a reseller account from a proper web host and doing it from his halls of residence trying to make a quick buck to pay for his next pint of stella.

Butuz i dont think that is a fair thing to say about dream-hosting; if you dont actually know. Does ebuyer give a phone number or address anymore??
    Its someones business afterall.

Thats hardly a good example of a company which no longer offers telelphones based customer services. Imagine if they only way to contact your hosts was via an e-note where you wait 3 days for a response and usually longer for them to resolve the issue.

    Telephone support is good!

I think its a fair thing to say. If you want to look professional, act professional. I havent used Ebuyer for that exact reason, i like to have an account manager i can phone and rant at if anything does go wrong.

But thats just me, and many people clearly only rate the aboloute lowest prices far higher than the customer satisfaction experience.....

This was what i thought was unreasonable in what you said.
