Ad-hoc wireless woes

I've been having a bit of trouble trying to share a connection on two computers ad-hoc wireless stylee.

There are two computers each fitted with netgear ma311 cards and each running xp home sp2.

The first computer is connected via usb to ntl cable modem and connects to the internet fine, the second computer appears to connect to the wireless network fine although the signal strength is always low, but i don't get any internet connection on computer 2.

What am i missing? I've tried inputting IP, default gateway etc manually but i'm not really sure what i'm doing and it didn't work, the IP is 169. something whereas i thought it should be 192...

you switched on Internet Connection Sharing on computer 1?

It's my friend's computers so i'll have to check later today, where do i enable 'internet connection sharing'?

Find the internet connection in My Network Places > View Network Connections

Right Click > properties > Advanced and it's in there along with the firewall

That's where i thought it was but with sp2 it doesn't seem to be there..

it should be there. try the route via network connections the right click the connection and then advanced.

Make sure you sharing the DSL connection - NOT the wireless one.
