    Recommend me an ADSL provider!!!

    Hi all....
After getting a BT line on 29th December, I need broadband back....
Can someone recommend a provider that :

    1) doesn't supply a modem, got one thanx!

    2) doesn't have an activation fee if possible, and does short contracts...

    3) doesn't cap your broadband if possible!!!

I was on NTL before with no probs.....

    CHeers!!!!
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!

you wont find a short contract provider without an activation fee m'afriad.

however I can't recommend Zen strongly enough - their service is excellent and apart from activation , they cover all of the above.

they are contrantly rated #1 uk ADSL ISp for a very good reason

Don't go Central point, they appear to be having huge bandwidth issues at the moment as they are a datastream service, (hence don't use much/any of the BT backbone) luke313 on here is having huge issues with them and after some research reading their forums and other complaints i wouldn't touch central point with a barge pole.

Nildram(now pipex), pipex, Zen, Eclipse are all good providers

How bad are the problems with central point? I was thinking about using them
as dirt cheap and short contract etc.... my gf is only on 56 K is it worse then that?

Well of a daytime it is absolutely fine - download at speeds of 100+KB/s etc, but once it gets to peak hours I am stuffed - try to play any online games with pings lower than 150, and downloading is at 30KB/s, not what I expect from a 1mbit service TBH

The only problem with BD is the Customer Services... or lack of it really but if your tech savvy then you'll have no real issues. I've only had to contact BD once - via email with a few tracerts and graphs showing the packet loss and issues @ my exchange and within 4 days BT had an engineer out to see what the issue was.

How do you exactly find out how far your exchange is from you? I got the town name but that means nothing in my book.

I'm on the 1Mb CPBB and get no problems what so ever

last night about 7pm i downloaded a 200Mb update for GTR @ ~96kbps, installed it and immediately went and played the game online - it was smoothe as, ping between 55-90 on Dutch servers.
