    Question ADSL, which provider?

Thinking about getting Broadband (finally), have been sent information about an offer for BT Broadband where there is a one off cost of £40 for the modem, free connection, months free rental and £27 a month from then on. This seems to be a good offer, but Ive heard plenty of negative things about BT's service, basically should I go for this, or is there better deals out there?

Im not interested in paying more a month for a bit more speed, I'm looking for the best deal when taking into account speed and cost.

    Thanks in advance

Yeah, avoid BT like the plague.

My favourite is Pipex. Less than £24 a month.

Zen or Pipex - If something ever goes wrong , Zen support are fantastic ! I put Zen dsl lines in for a lot of my clients and I have to say I am very happy with them.

I use pipex at home ( was cheapest when I signed up 18 months ago ) and havn't needed to use their tech support as it hasn't really had any issues.

BT are a 'kin nightmare if you ever need to speak to them.

    I can recommend Nildram.
Been with them for 8 months and have had no problems at all. £22.99 per month incl. VAT.

Reassuringly, they're pretty much always at number 1 or 2 in the ADSLGuide speed comparison charts.

    cheers,
    dave

Not at replying to my 3 e-mailed enquiries about becoming a customer...

Got this sorta service when I first wanted BB, the guy on the phone was so off-hand and condescending I went with BT instead, at least BT answer your questions and the service and support have been excellent.

Shame for Nildram as I'd like to use them, but they just don't seem bothered about it.....

Plus Net is the choice for me. I find that the 'extras' that you get for your 21.99 per month such as unix shell account, sql database, fax2email, cgi etc etc is fantastic.

    bulldog for london = bestor.

£23.99 for 1 meg offpeak at the moment, as in, 512kb 8-6pm, then off peak is all 1 meg . Thats a great price, current offer only, check that out, sweet deal.

Pipex service is terrible, and i've been trying to connect, to get 2 meg from bulldog, for 2 months, with pipex flat out lying every day when i phone, with reasons they messed it up, takes 5 days to get the line disconnected once bt are notified, so any more and your ISP is lying, 2 months and your ISP is completely money grabbing ghey fools.

If they had been nice about it, and given me good service, had for instance, they got first 4 meg line for cheap, or first 12 meg line, whatever, i may have swapped back, so they've lost any future money, and i will no longer recommend them, of which i've got two peeps at least to sign to them, so any mroe is lost. Companies need to learn that treating customers well, in the long run, even when disconnecting me, could actually make them money. As it is they lost any future buisness from me, and from anyone i may have told them about. They=stupid.

Also, average speeds are useful to look at if you live in maybe a area with small number of exchanges, cos you can see how they cope with a bunch of people on one exchange, but if you live somewhere like london, it won't matter much. Everyone i know in london gets far higher speeds than those averages. Its outlying people with long distances that drag them down.

Just got bulldog 2mb offpeak. I can say its very quick. But don't expect them to reply to emails!

I had trouble getting BTO to disconnect my service with them ie they ceased it, but left their kit connected to my line in the exchange. If this happens your new supplier cannot run a line test!

Hint: If you have a contract with BTO, you can get it ceased in 7 days rather than a month if you cancel because you are unhappy with changes in terms and conditions!

Is there anywhere that will tell you if you're in range for broadband?
