power surge on a phone line ??

my sister has just broke my adsl modem, it's gone like her ohter one (does not pick up an adsl signel and the network says it's pluged in but says its got no or limted conectavity), because this is the 2nd one that gone like this i'm thinking there is a power spike on the line ot in the house.
can some one tell me if i'm right or not.

Sounds possible.. but if it's a regular occurence then I would guess that you should notice other electrical appliances being affected as well.

I lost a PCI modem to a power spike caused by a thunderstorm a year and a bit ago. Try using a surge protector on the telephone line - they're pretty cheap.

ooooh - well, dlink adsl router rebooted 4 times yesterday on it's down - despite being on UPS. wireless router downstream of it suffered badly (won't let you connect wirelessly if it doesn't have a valid lease - which is totally pointless) was a bit odd, considering nothing showed on the server as recording a brownout, so it could have been something odd happening to the phone line.
