I think the Speedtouch 580 is one of the best ADSL modem/router combos you can get. However, it's not 108Mbps (which is overrated anyway). Do you really need that speed? It's not even a real standard. You might be better off waiting until the Pre-N kit is released 'proper'.
When is the Pre-N due?
“pre-N” is just the nickname given to the technology that is used by a few manufactures (such as Belkin) to describe their products that are faster than 802.11g
It will just be “n”, as in 802.11n.
It’s actually now been finalised, so it’s just time before it reaches retail.
The “pre-n” equipment use technologies such as MIMO (multiple in, multiple out) that I believe the “n” range also uses.
There is talk of some of these devices simply needing a firmware update to be true “n”. If this happens is anyone’s guess though.
What about the netgear rangemax unit? wouldn't that rock?
However - not sure it has a built in modem
(I knew what Pre-N is - sorry I was implying if people had any information on when n* was due)
David, I think the one you are looking for is this
Netgear DG834GT 108Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem/Router/Switch/Firewall
I am considering one myself, but im yet to find any reviews on one (hint )
David you might want to checkout the Sveasoft forums, their hacked firmware is excellent, and you can place bountys on requests of features you want, those guys can make routers do virtually anything.
I have a Netgear WGT624 v2 that was awful, it was so unstable, crashed, rebooted, did anything randomly after about 3months of usage, had naff range too! Switched to Linksys WRT54GS which features 54+ speeds that is friendly and compatible with other speeds, unlike others
