    *cries* 24 Mb ADSL (LLU)

Looks like the snailspeeds we get at the moment ( 512 Kb/s etc and lower ) are going into the coffin and getting the final nail embedded as we speak with BT and everyone else now rolling out 2 Mb lines.

Now a new company called BE have announced they are doing 25 LLU exchanges in London with ADSL2+ and progressively rolling it out from there and as such I've pre-registered an "interest"

ADSLguide/TheReg has spoken to a spokesperson thats said the service should be under 30 pounds a month.

All I can say is " BRING IT ON BABY - thats a cracking speed "

    More information/registration can be found at the following link ;

I'm not bothered really about the download speed - its the ruddy upload speed that needs fixing really. 30 kb/s upload is "okay" but I've had a 60 kb/s upload and the difference in gaming has been fantastic recently. Games are more fluid, shots are registering more and the pings lower than a snakesbelly

Now "fingers crossed" ADSL2+ should be much faster on the upload again, meaning a better experience in gaming, and I'll be able to host a quick server for <insert game of choice for the night> without lagging with 4 people on it

i saw that about the BE offer on el reg yesterday, but something didnt add up to me.

    1. BE are a brand new LLU company (AFAIK). They must have some revenue somewhere, as i dont think they're a subsidiary of a bigger organisation.
    2. They'll be giving away 24Mbit connections for less than £30 a month, when they could easily do it for more (£100+) to get the enthusiast money in first, and then lower the prices once demand has levelled.
    3. They'll be giving away a wifi router/modem worth £120 with each connection free.

Something not right there. Its either a ton of hype, or they've got a killer of a business model.

Sameas 3, they give back £100 cash rebates leaving you with £15 monthly bills, iirc, which is damn cheap for what you get!

Sounds too good to be true!!! You would need farms of hard drives to copwith the amount of pron that you would get with a connection like that!!

Just got my 'up to' 8 Meg line from Bulldog, uploads are at around 490-500Kbps and downloads at 4822-5100Kbps.

Was hoping to get a bit more on the downloads but I'm more than happy with the upload speeds. I don't think my line can handle 8Mbps let alone 24Mbps...

My girlfirend has just had the 'BE' unlimited 24mbit service installed, i am downloading a linux distribution from a paid newsgroup service at a dissapointing 950ksec, that isn't even 10mbit let alone 24.

Nevermind, i'm pretty sure they advertise 'up to'.

a friend of mine has had BE at her parents house for about 4 months now. The router has VoIP technologies.

The contract is 12 months, and its really a case of upto 24mbit.

No one is really going use 24mbit constantly too, people will use 1mbit quite constantly if they want to get say 5gig downloaded. What I'm trying to say is with the upload still not even a 10th of the downstream, we're hardly going to see a massive P2P explosion either.

People will find that with bit torrent you're buggered. Usenet will let you max out your connection thou. But really are you going to download more than 300gig a month? 50 DVDs? I doubt it. (remeber that 320gig is theroetically what you get pcm on 1mbit).

The thing is its about getting it now, which is just great, and with peering agreements and the dropping price of networking gear, the cost of it isn't that high. Combined with VoIP marketing ideas they should be onto a winner.

The marketing department of BE is fantastic, it's clearly aiming to be the 'fashionable' choice for broadband and through my girlfriends experience, it's succeeding.

which is exactly what they should do. Lots of people don't know about VoIP, video on demand, or anything else which broad-er-band can give you.

By putting QoS on as default, they very cunningly sold it as "able to game with a low ping on xbox live, and download big files on the computer". Didn't explain the technology at all, no need to.

Its funny as I'm thinking i'll be living in london next year, its actually important for me that theres going to be 24mbit broadband, why i don't know, but I'd feal ripped off getting only 8mbit

You have to be within 300meters of the exchange to get 24(ish) meg. Apparently i could get 2-3 meg instead of the current 1 i can get from bt.
