    Data Centre....I've been to one!

Bleedin' hell. Jiff and Moby told me it was impressive. But HELL.

I've not seen back up generators bigger than my house before! I've not seen so many..and I mean many....racks of servers in my life.

I think I want to host an IL-2 server in there. The power....the raw bandwidth!

    Awesome.

(was Tiscali in Milton Keynes by the way)

Nah....Jiff Lemon of this forum had to install a server, raid array and firebox, so I loaded it all into my Cavalier before they could say "you're supposed to be doing something else" and drove him!

A few phone calls later, some ID, proof's of who I work for etc, and Jiff guiding me.

Happened on Wed. I have driven past it every day for months not knowing it was there. It's an ex US Bank building, with laser security perimiter and 4 main power feeds from different grids in Milton Keynes.

And I am impressed! Big time

check out the C&W data center in Swindon. most advanced in europe, and I think it still holds the title of the largest.
    It is Inevitable.....

    yep..my mistake.

It is astounding in a way only a weirdo like me, ....or you lot would be impressed.

And then, as you take a step back, you see the bigger picture.

A ditch all around to prevent ram raiding (well...making it bloody hard anyway), laser sentry positions, with intgrated CCTV, then lots of security cards, and lots of back up power.

And racks and racks....and racks of servers.

Mammoth power supply's in each room on the wall, underfloor plugs for monitors, trolleys for monitors and keyboards to wheeel around the racks, locked glass fronted cabinets full, big racks, psu plug plates.....cables, so many calbles, removable doors for access, the constant whir of aircon, dehumidifiers....

    just awesome

But huge rows of them with immense power

I can imagine it, but to actually see one would be quite cool, with all the security and power e.t.c.

P.S. Is there a hum of fans or electrics
