    Its the server priority the lower the number the higher the priority, only equal weight servers are searched in a random fashion. The numbers can be anything people like, 5 is a common number to use as it allows insertion of a higher weight server without waiting for the existing server's record to timeout. Email MX records have weights too, however its common to put final delivery points down as MX 0.

    I know this is an old thread, but I've just installed Simple DNS from JH Soft - wow, this makes DNS easier than ever if you need to run one yourself. Forget Microsoft's. Ha!

    So long as you realise that the 'close simple DNS' in the UI actually terminates the service

    Everything you wanted to know about DNS records but were afraid to ask

    has anyone inserted DNS addresses in the standard BSNL issued router ? I am trying to do it but couldn't find any info anywhere. Can you guys please help me out. Thanks

    Thanks this is pretty good info especially for people in IT. All I have been doing so far is flushing and registering DNS though
