    NTL speed increase?

    Im paying for the £17.99 a month package which is 300k (i had this before the newr 1meg line for this price came about), however i just downloaded a demo of Fifa06 which is 213meg in size and i had it in under 45 mins.

    Suprised at the stable rate of download i ran a few bandwidth tests after it downloaded and they all stated a bandwidth of around 1000Mbs. Have NTL now upgraded everyone to the one meg line, like i beleive they did with customers on the £25.99 per month package which is now 2meg. If this is the case do i now have a bandwidth cap of 3gig?

    That does nothing for me, just get page timeouts. Im behind a router if that makes any difference.

    Ive got the cable modem that NTL provided me with. Its external.

    Ive confirmed the speed increase now any way. Just need to know if i have the pathetic 3gig cap, if thats the case i will have to see about moving to the 2meg service.

    Unfortunatly i can't loging to my NTL account since ive forgotten the details for it. NTL have sent details to that account about the speed increase so im unable to read about the situation with the cap.

    Hmm, I hope this isn't the case. I have a 300k connection like you, and am wary of 'upgrading' to the new 3gig cap..... To be honest, I thought the reason I hadn't been already was that it wasn't included in the contract. If you aren't happy with this, I'd suggest you see if the contract you accepted has this included. If it doesn't, you may be able to get NTL to either upgrade as an act of good will, or put you back to 300k?

    When NTL brought out the 1meg service for £17.99 users it was their choice if they wanted to upgrade to it if my memory serves me well. All new users of the service didnt have a say in the matter they had the 1meg service and the hidiously low cap. The size of that cap is an effort by ntl to try and get people to move to the 2meg service which means more money for them. The cap was the very reason why i decided not to upgrade my service at that time, now it appears that current users have no say in the matter either.

    Same here, they couldn't have made their intentions any more obvious. I mean come on, 3gb for 1mb, then 30gb for 2mb. How does twice the speed warrant 10 times the cap?

    Bad show NTL, I just wish I could have another ISP.

    The capping on NTL shouldn't be a problem for long as they are merging with telewest who dont have caps.

    Eventually that might be the case, but initially there won't be any changes to either service or the terms and conditions.

    Anyone know if there are any other ISPs which you can get if you have a NTL phone line?

    yes.. actually you can aol 1mb unlimited on an ntl line.. i am in the same boat.. the ntl are giving us unoimited usage at 1mbit until december then eith back dwon to 300k with a 30gig cap or 1meg with a 3 gig cap.. but the only other service availible is AOL gold..,
    AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array
