    1MB bandwidth down to 56k speeds :s

    hi,

i got tiscali 1mb broadband and for past two weeks been gettin varying speeds getting ever slower as time goes by, today its finally hit 56k speeds and I got no idea what the problem is. I disabled firewalls, no luck there, called tiscali, and got redirected to india :0 and they was no help. I even uninstalled every p2p app i got, and still no luck

Tiscali often had problems, this time last year I was getting 600 ping in CSS, and download speeds reached 56k speeds, but when they upgrade/sort out the problem it will be eradicated (sp?). Unless this isn't the problem, which shouldn't be around too long, theres not much you can do but complain. But there is a chance you have something wrong down your end...

    double post btw

    is tiscali adsl ??

im with ntl which is cable and whenever my internet speed drops, usually the cure is to reset my modem, by turning it on then off, it then retunes n is back upto scratch again, worth a shot i guess

Tiscali is just a terrible service I'm afraid. Try resetting your cable, but the simple fact is they don't provide a good speed. Good luck.

Latency (i think that's the word I'm looking for) ratios are effectively what you share your line with. Therefore a 1 Mb line with a latency ratio of 1:50 could cut down to 50 kb at peak times. I don't know what your latency is, but it'll be in the t&cs.

Guys you also should realise that Tiscali does not use the BT network, they use their own limited network under the DataStream product range.

Datastream product ranges are Notoriously poor bandwidth as its not the concention at local user level thats the problem, its during the high level networks that problems start.

Tiscali at peak times just doesn't have the capacity to cope. You want proper speeds get yourself an IPStream product, but be prepared to wait for a few weeks, as going from datastream to ipstream is a pain in the arse.

This is why Tiscali do not support MAC codes for migration. What Tig said about the bandwidth on tiscali is also very true and many people on adslguide are also complaining about speeds a LOT lower than yours

No MAC codes. Does that mean I can't migrate to another ISP after the 12 months contract?

Or do I just cancel the broadband service and pay for the activation fee again in the future.!

As Tiscali dont support the migration system you would need to cancel then repay the activation to the new ADSL supplier.

Wasn't the activation fee once off though?

My presumed definition was that it paid BT to activate the broadband feature on your phone line. So once it's done, it done. Am I right?

No sadly its not, you paid to get datastream not ipstream setup, in effect you are a new customer and have to pay. I believe the main reason its a pain in the arse is because you need an engineer to go out to the exchange and "Twiddle" something hehe

I believe that tiscali have just started supporting the migration process. As some customers of theres over on adslguide have said they have just obtained MAC's from them.

Also i believe tiscali use ip stream now aswell as data stream and that it is the customers on ip stream that having the most problems.

Yea that migration thing is REALLY bad, but it's good they aren't imprisoning their customers now and are starting to support it all

Once Be is in my area I'm gonna pack my bags and leave
