    iMac > PC > Internet?

OK networking guru types. Eldest daughter has a PC running XP Pro & that's hooked up to a USB cable modem & thro that she accesses t'internet. Now i've gone & got daughter number 2 an iMac G3 for her birthday. Can I plug said iMac into the free network port on the PC & gain access to www world?

I would think that there must be an "internet sharing" option in XP somewhere. If you can get that to share the connection from the USB modem to the ethernet port, then you can plug in a cross-over cable between iMac and PC.

Having said that, it might be better in the long run to get a proper ethernet modem so you can set up a proper home network so simplify matters.

You can if it has OSX "Tiger" installed on the G3 but panther OS is no go, I tried to do the same thing at my old house when was doing ICS with NTL connected to the pc using usb and then to another machine using the NIC in the PC. A Windows machine would find an IP fine but the MAC lappy my mate had that was running the panther version of the Mac OS would'nt. He upgraded to OSX tiger and it worked a treat and had spesh settings for Joining ICS or shared connections.
I had a scout for ages to try and do it on the panther Mac OS to no avail!!! As i'm no Mac expert this may not be the case mind you
    BrOw

*edit: think it was the jaguar release of osx10 that can't ics with windows
