Ok work with me here, your modem has a USB (depending on the modem) and RJ45 connection on it if you're on cable and you need to connect the modem to the WAN port on your router.

You have an ADSL router (WAN is RJ11 aka Phone line).

You need a cable router (WAN is RJ45 aka networking cable). You can't plug the modem into port one and the pc into port 2 as it won't route packets across the interfaces like that in the same way plugging in a switch won't work*. I'd suggest a WRT54GL as they are solid performers and have the added advantage of being able to run DDWRT. You could always use your Netgear as a switch/AP if you wanted ... ?

*Exception being if you have dual IP Gaming service but the userbase was so minute when I last looked it's hardly worth covering.

got a replacement router so wireless problem is fixed.

the other issue which is prob a line issue as it happened with my usb modem is the net disconnects randomly.

how do i go about getting the line issue resolved without paying bt anything.

current isp is ukfsn so entanet.

aslo the net seems to disconnect due to 1 of the following

    1) heavy downloading

    2) house phone receiving a call

back when i was on 56k net seemed to disconnect whenever i recieved a telephone call.

if its any help the router is in the master socket. and i have used 2 different sets of filters 1s supplied by isp and 1s that came with the router.

Check your filter, connections dropped due to incoming calls are a common problem with a filter being on it's way out.

    Re: dg834pn problems

still having issues constant drops, or internet just going down to snail speeds with a high packet loss resulting in running like a 1k modem or not at all.

isp is entanet router is dg834pn.
