Router on its way out, need recommendations for new one

My router is dropping the signal all the time, so Im going to replace it, but what I want to know is, is there any point in buying one of these routers that are 108kbps or 125kbps or even 140kbps? I quite like the MSI router that I have, but it is painfully slow for transferring files wirelessly.

Any recommendations then? fast as possible, but wireless and reliable.

Edit: I should add that, the main pc connects via rj45, so just the laptop that will be connecting. Im on NTL cable as well.

Draytek Vigor? Always good if you've got the money, otherwise Netgear, possibly the RangeMax series?

I have a Zyxel 660 and it is rock solid, haven't had to reboot it in about 6 months. SCAN have some Zyxel stuff on special this weekend.

108Mbps Super G mode bonds two WiFi channels together - way to steal all the WiFi channels in your neighbourhood.

125HSM uses frame bursting and compression - not so bad but still requires all connected hardware to support it if it's going to work completely.

Stick to the standards. 802.11n looks good, but it's not ratified yet. I have a Draytek Vigor 2800VG... very nice.

To make use of the super G mode, do I need a special network adapter in my laptop, or will it happily use a G adapter?

Just been looking at the Draytek ones, do they work ok with NTL cable?

You need a supported adaptor for Super G mode.
It'll work fine with NTL.

Thanks for that ...now to find a flaming ExpressCard super G thing for the laptop !

Edit: Im not having much luck finding a ExpressCard type adapter of any kind....I just checked on the Dell website and that's what it says the slot type is, and with a bit of googling, everything seems to be pcmcia. I can find an adapter to convert pcmcia to expresscard, but thats it. I think I must be looking at the wrong thing, any ideas?

The other option is a 802.11a access point, if your laptop supports it. Less congestion at the 5ghz spectrum, so your transfer rates should increase naturally.

The Laptop is an Inspiron 6400 and according to the Dell specs the wireless part is "Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini PCI Wireless LAN Card for Core 2 Duo Processors" Does anyone know if these are built in, or actually an internal card, if its removable, maybe it would be easier to find one of those in the Super G variety?

Ive been looking at the draytek vigor models, but arent the 2800vg ones for adsl2 and not cable, or do they do both? One of the cheaper models is showing as compatible with NTL cable, but its only 54mbps.

Edit: Ive found a few super g mini pci wireless cards for around 15 quid (gigabyte branded, loads on froogle), I just need to see if the one in the laptop is removable now.

Dells are always removable - they wouldnt be able to configure them without one otherwise
Draytek 2900 series (2900 / 2910) is what your after for cable.
