Thumbs down I brought the wrong router!!

    Hi,

I did a bit of impulse buying the other week and brought an ADSL Router when im with NTL so my internet is hardwired and does not use a phone line but more importantly uses an ethernet cable.

Is there some sort of converter adapter you can get to convert adsl to ethernet/RJ45

Or is there a way to trick the Router into thinking that one of the LAN ports is a WAN port

    Thanks
    Dave

Not as far as I'm aware. I've not got any experience with NTL but it sounds like you probably wanted a switch not a router.

It all makes perfect sense, expressed in Dollars and Cents, Pounds, Shillings and Pence.

no you do need a router as the NTL box doesn't have any DHCP or NAT features.

Where did you get the ADSL router from? Can you not return it?

I don't know of any way to convert your ADSL box to a regular cable router.

return your wrong purchase, and buy a generic broadband router (not a router w/ adsl modem built in)

No, return the product and get the right router. It's the only feasible option I'm afraid.

Listen to what everyone has said - It cant be done. Its as simple as that.

ADSL and Cable are entirely different. Making the connection adaptor match wont make it magicaly work.
Unless it has a WAN uplink port (unlikely), then return it and buy the correct one.

Just to reinforce, send it back and get the one you do need a lot less hassle for you in the long run.

you could buy a few thousand pounds' worth of ADSL host equipment, and run an ADSL line from the cable connection

or you could return what you've bought and get the right device

    up to you really
