Well in that box thingy theres probably a NAT.
Find your internal IP address.
Network connections > right click the one connected to the internet > click status > support.
Now enter either the ip address listed or the default gateway. and you should get a config screen of some sort, which will allow you to figure out what the box is called and then find instructions on forwarding ports on it.
Enter the ip where? In a browser? It doesn't work if I enter it into a browser.

Yup in a browser, make sure to try the default gateway and IP if they're different.
Unless you can find out what the box your cable goes into you cant find out how to forward ports for it.
As far as I'm aware its basically an antenna. I don't think it does anything much. It does have a mac address though (don't know what one is but I'm fairly sure its significant). I'm going to climb on my roof now and have a look. If I don't post back I'll either be dead or in hospital.

I was under the impression it was a wired connection and it was some kind of pre-installed router/cable modem. Phoning your ISP is probably your best bet. Remember Linux IS's are the best excuse for torrenting

You need to edit your firewall rules to allow the upnp framework, turn on upnp in utorrent and also make sure you have turned upnp on ( it's off by default in windows xp )
Sorry for ressing this thread but I really need to download something, I called my isp and they didn't really pay any attention, all they did was complain about me going through 20gbs of dl a week lol. I still have this problem though, upnp in enabled in my firewall and in utorrent. I even tried using ports that i manually opened in the firewall and it stil said "not forwarded properly".
I think my internet is a long range wireless conection to a load of transmitters in the nearest vilage.

Have you tried bitcomet just to compare..i've never changed any options on it..it just works lol.

one thing i've tried in the past is port forwarding on my router, setting up a rule using the listen port that bitcomet uses
Not very good with networking so I can't help any more than that.
If it helps at all..Torrents are blocked under fair usage via my ISP until very late in the eveing..but you seem to know your ISP people so that probably isn't the case.
The simple answer would be to login into the router and stick your internal 192.168.x.x IP address as the DMZ and this basically bypasses any port mappings you need to do
