I need to get a router - if it comes with WiFi thats a bonus (and rather helpful)
It has to support VPN and port forwarding to several different systems on my network.
What should I get?

Hmm, that's not a huge amount of info to go on.
"Several different systems" - several different PCs, or a few unconnected intranets?
Do you need ADSL? Do you want it for work or home? Do you want a firewall seperately, or as part of the router?
Regarding the WiFi option, it's really easy to add that afterwards depending on cost. If you bought, for argument's sake, a Netgear DG834 for about £47, you can easily add (and in time, upgrade) a Wi-Fi add-on (such as a cable router, access point etc).
Then again, you can buy versions of the DG834 with different flavours of built in WiFi, such as:
The 'G' version for £52 (a bargain if you ask me)
The better MIMO 'PN' version for £89
Or best yet 'N' version for £97.
These can all have future access points added too, in the same way.
So..... what are your needs, and what are you willing to spend?
PS The 834 does come with a VPN wizzard, although i havent used it so can't comment on its usefulness.
The port forwarding works perfectly for my small home network.
Edit: I've just seen that you have nearly 10,000 Hexus posts. Either you are posting an awful lot of bum-fluff here, or you know a damn site more than i have credited you with, surely?

Dave , how many ports to forward and which types of VPN ?

VPN - Well - I connect a 2003 box as a terminating point - however if the Router can do the VPN 100% that would be well impressive.
... I need ADSL.
Ports to forward - NFS, FTP, DNS, SSH, Telnet and whatever my IPKVM uses
If my trusty router (damnit ) was failing I'd get a Draytek Vigour 2700VG
Do these guys do any good ones?

ZyXel seem to be as close to Draytek for quality without the massive price tag. I was looking at one for the student house next year - might be perfect
The Zyxel ones are pretty smart - I think a Draytek would also suit you.

Which model now
This one looks like it does everything you want and more
I love my draytek 2600
Only problem with Draytek is that they have features on the router that arent actually available until they implement them in the firmware(When I got my 2600 2 years ago it had the QOS light but no options to set it up int he bios)
The draytek also has the benefits of being able to do nat and routed at the same time which is great if you have a ip range.
Im going for a DG834G myself hopefully free from ISP but il buy if i have too :/
Linksys WRT54GL
get that router and flash it with the dd-wrt firmware
its amazing!
I'd vote for the Draytek, if you got the cash.
Drayek is without a doubt the best router!
I deal with many businesses and we install drayteks in all. I have never have any issues with them. Even the BT man said they are the best router in the world!
