Having run the full gamut of products on the market for this, Sudocrem, Zinc & Castor oil etc, I can safely say (imo) nothing beats Metanium for incurable raw sore babies.
But get it on carpet/clothes & the stuff never comes out

I've also found changing brands on nappies can help.
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
OiD, is that an over the counter thing? Emma has had very bad Diahrrea for about 5 days now and her bottom looks redder than a snooker ball and sudocreme is doing nothing.
+1 Pampers and Huggies are easily the best.

It can be down to teething. unfortunately there is not alot you can do. I tend to leave my little fellows nappy open as long as I can after changing him to get all the crap that comes off baby wipes away from him and the moisture so he nice and dry when I close it up.
Unfortunately he sometimes has a pee so i close him up quick!
that luvly metanium yellow colour is a pain!!!
I have a tube of this form Costco going spare not sure if its any good as I've not been allowed to use it. I didn't buy it because I liked the product name......

The stuff from Canada is called Candilou and it is the best i've ever found for clearing up nappy/teething rash. Unfortunatley i haven't found anywhere that you can get it in the UK.
The childminder swears by Bepanthen, and you can get it from the doctors on prescription.
It's been yeeeears since I've had to do any nappy changing, but yes, I remember Metanium as being the holy elixir of nappy rash cream
Faye's actually in cloth nappies - because we're stingy and running the washing machine is cheaper than buying nappies. She's even got some cloth nappies that'll last all night, but we don't always use them. Re powder - it's best not to use it really as it's so fine, it can get breathed in by the small one and do narsty things in their lungs (it's essentially crushed rock and doesn't break down). We've never used talc or anything like that, just made sure she's changed when she's wet or dirty (she's v.good at telling us so we don't have to guess) and yes, Metanium does work brilliantly, although we've had good results with the Sudocrem too.
Many of the baby talcs used to be based on cornflour. In fact we used to use cornflour when we ran out. Apparently it's very dry-ing.
