Good luck. Faye suddenly stopped wanting to be swaddled at about 8 months. She's not slept a full night since - her hands wake her up

Michael used to be like this....It got to be a habit i'm sure, fighting sleep, then going beyond wanting to sleep, we used to take him out in the car, he'd be out like a ligt after going round the block a few times, fresh air will do the trick too, so a walk in the buggy can also help

Just keep reminding yourself it's not forever

We must be the lucky ones at the moment as Hayden is quite good when it comes to sleeping.

Hayden sleeps from about 10.30 till 7 am but if she's not had a good feed beforehand and stuffed her face she does occasionally wake around about 5-6 for a feed and then falls asleep till about 11.

    Re: plese go to sleep!

May I ask what the little gonzo is sleeping in?

Zak Jr was not swaddled from about 4 months, it may have been 3 months ish actually, e hated having his arms bundled up.... in fact we moved him into his own room was earlier than we planned.

First thing we noticed was that the MOSES BASKET was wobbling wen he moved... and it woke him up. So we left him in the basket but carried it to his COT (which was waiting for when he was bigger) one lunch time and bingo... sleep. It also got him used to his own room.

The next thing was that with long sleeved vests and a heater in his room, he slept best in a SLEEPING BAG.

The Dream Bag was best for us. The zip worked from under his feet to up under his arm and didn't need connecting up every night, and it was warm enough with long sleeved vests and sleep suits that he was comfy with a little heater in his room over winter.

Then I did his dream feed every night about 11ish pm, on a chair while I defragged my brain from a days work

    Re: plese go to sleep!

Wow, I must be really lucky.

Emma is 6.5 months old and has been sleeping through the night in her own room for about 2 months now. She has been sleeping 7pm till 7am and we managed to cut out the dream feed about a month ago!

Sleeping bags are the way forward though, nice and warm and they can't kick them off. Emma's cot is also nice and big so if she wiggles around she doesn't bump anything to wake her up.

How old is your little one Gonzo? We also found that leaving Emma to cry for 5 minutes, then 10 then 15 before going in very quickly got her used to settling herself. May sound mean but if you go in every time they cry then it restarts the cycle.

    Re: plese go to sleep!

    +1 for sleeping bags

oil filled radiator as well - £40 from Argos (can get product code if needs be, comes with thermostat, timer and power setting built in) - to sort out keeping just the nursery warm rather than the whole house.

Our little 4 month old has just started to get a good sleep stint every now and then, eg feed somewhere between 7pm & 9pm, this one we start downstairs then finish upstairs with nappy change midway through feed - then put in sleeping bag and finish feed off to make it easier to put him down.

Then goes for another sleepy feed around 11pm to 12pm - aim to get as much in as possible then usually get 4 to 5 hours, but as I said we're getting more and more 12pm to 6:30/7:00am stints in.

Me and the missus split the feed duties up - I feed, she changes nappy. I've found me being extra calm and soothing helps, but it's the damned "winding" that gets me - you try 3 different things and nothing, then all of sudden "bleeeeerrrgh" and out it pops!

We had no choice in putting him in the "big nursery cot" - he outgrew his crib! He does suffer a bit with snorting/sinuses so we also put on a Karvol plug-in, you forget it's there and bam hits you and clears yours when you go in!

Oh yes, got a good Baby Monitor (BT one), adjust sensitivity so it only comes on when he's "X" loud, and only go in if he really kicks off - you start to learn between him wigging out needing your attention and just being a little restless.

    Re: plese go to sleep!

gonzo jr is 3 months old, but popped out 2 months early! so technically a month old in the grand scheme

she has sinus issues as well and is laying down next to me snorting away like a trooper !

its anything between 2-4 hours at the moment, i have binned the baby monitor due to feedback from something.. i doubt we need it if we leave both doors open as her rooms next to ours.

when i clear the building gear out of there mind you !

i may try the sleeping bag but we keep getting told not to swaddle as they cant kick the covers off if they get 2 hot and may fit due to it. wouldn't a sleeping back have the same risks ?

    Re: plese go to sleep!

gonzo the baby monitors are absolute crap, my sister uses one and theres so much feedback i just leave kerris door slightly open and what ever room im in open a bit, tend to hear her anytime shes up.

Sister never uses a sleeping bag, she just puts kerri in one of the like pj's toe to arms, and then a little blanket. I will suggest the sleeping bag and see how it changes!.

Good luck to improving the Littleton sleeping.

    Re: plese go to sleep!

BT Baby Monitor 150 - very minimal feedback, can hear a bit of white noise but put it this way, I can hear him breathing in and out over it. Try one from online, send it back under DSR if not happy?

Think you should be able to get from dabs, amazon and bt online shop, bit pricey at about £70 though.

Downside is trying to resist quoting "Smokey and the Bandit" over it!

Get a decent DECT monitor and you should be fine. We use the Philips Avent SCD530 and there's zero feedback and the transmission is very clear.

We swaddled our baby until about 3 months. The plan was to move to a gro (sleeping bag) earlier but he's always had dry skin so was scratching a lot to the point the sores would weep. He's been in a grow since 3 months (once sores healed) and it can take them a few days to get use to it. Waiting until 6 months or so to do the whole cry-down thing.

He only slept a full 8-9 hours at night for 2 weeks (at 2 to 2.5 months) otherwise has been getting up every few hours to feed. Tried the dream feeding but he'd get far more gassy then usual and a 60-90 minute feed would become 2+ hours and ultimately more crying and fussing. We just tell ourselves his digestive system will catch up sooner or later and he'll go back to sleeping more!

EDIT: How's the humidity in the baby's room? A lot of babies are mouth breathers in the early months and a dry room can cause throat and nasal irritation. We're ordered a humidifier to see if it helps ours sleep better. I think a good humidity level is about 50%. Our room has dropped to 27-32% since winter hit.
