how do i make sure my computer goes to sleep?

i've set my PC to sleep after 1 hour of inactivity, but sometimes it just doesn't go to sleep.
if i leave F@H on it doesn't go to sleep, if i have WMP open it doesn't sleep.
    so..
what i'm basically asking is, how do i make sure it goes to sleep?
are there any programs out there that anyone uses to make their PC nod off?

I figure it won't go into standby if you have processes like WMP or F@H running, F@H uses CPU cycles so the machine isn't inactive when it is running, I imagine WMP is always using CPU cycles too.

So you'd have to close those apps manually I think - F@H will definetly keep the system under load!

Give it a later bedtime, this also stops it from getting up to early and during the night

Re: how do i make sure my computer goes to sleep?

Even if WMP isn't using the processor, it probably has routines to tell windows not to sleep. I'm pretty sure a PC can be forced to sleep with running F@H, my laptop used to go to sleep even when I told it not to at one point as the power settings were all messed up (pre Vista SP1 i think).

Although F@H may have changed, it is a good year since I've really used it.
