    Baby Monitors

Who uses what and how good?

We got a BT DECT one secondhand 2 1/2 year ago and it's amazing.. but having seen how bad others are I'm not suprised people hate some of them.

    Re: Baby Monitors

I got to admit, I gave up using them after the first 6 or so months. But I only ever used the simple sound activated ones. I think by that point I had had enough of lying in bed watching the lights flicker in my face. Plus, as you get older/have more kids you become a lot more relaxed about stuff like that.

We've got a tomme tippee one - the sound mat gave us a lot of peace of mind in the early months in the moses basket ( once you'd got used to sleeping with a slightly irregular metronome )

its not given any false alarms yet and hopefully will continue to do so once she's in the cot.

    Re: Baby Monitors

One thing I would say is buy a decent one. We had some crappy ones that picked up local taxi some how! Very irritating.

Also, set them to low once the little one is a bit older. Otherwise you end up going to their room with every amplified gurgle.

For our next one I think a video one is in order!

    Re: Baby Monitors

We've got an Angelcare unit -

it's got a pressure pad that goes under the mattress with an adjustable sensitivity, which alarms if the child stops breathing, plus the usual noise monitor. It does lots of things that we've never used, like a temperature alarm (temp is displayed at all times) which you set the upper/lower limits for and then it'll bleat at you if it's over or under. Good piece of kit tbh - the parent module works and maintains a signal even when I go out of the house taking the bin round the back or something

We have got a BT one. Its just a 2 way jobby that will play music too, none of this sensor stuff. Being digital the sound quality is very good!

    Re: Baby Monitors

we have a BT 150 one. brilliant sound quality (i.e. not loads of static that you have to listen to). The bonus this winter has been the temp display as our house is very cold so its been good to know wheter the babies room needs a heater on etc. Also plays tooons, good for conditioning them that now is the time to sleep!

We use the Philips Avent SCD530. On the pricier side but has been faultless so far.

    Re: Baby Monitors

So it seems Philips and BT are popular, and as epxected, people who suffered excess static etc from low quality ones, gave up pretty early!

I'm not a fan of the temperature monitor ones cos the monitor needs to be at the same height as the baby if it's to be believed, so if baby is in low down cot monitor needs to be on floor, and if it high up needs to be high up etc.

So a good long sleeved vest, and a nice set of jim jams and then lots of bedding for Zak Jr

    No baby monitor here.

Moses basket in our bedroom for 1st 6 months. In own room thereafter, but our house is not really big enough for it to be an issue...

Our flat isn't very large either but we find the monitor useful for the times we're watching Blu-ray movies at volume .

We have the Tomy Walkabout Classic Advance.

Had no issues with it at all. And with a bit of practice with timing, the talk feature is quite handy. (Obviously asking if the wife wants a cuppa, that sort of thing)

Works well, especially if you have p-in-p on your TV.

    Or this

Which I think has sound (but no night vision capability)

    Re: Baby Monitors

Can throw in another reccomendation for the Angelcare units. The constant bipping takes a little getting used to but the peace of mind of knowing an alarm will sound if it can't detect them breathing was worth it. It doesn't pick up every noise they make though as it seems to cut in and out when the lullaby music we play is on but it lets us know when there's wailing going on.
