Our little un has just broke his wrist :(

After coming out of playgroup my son (2 1/2) told my wife he'd fallen over & had a sore hand, turns out he's only gone & broken it! A call to playgroup tomorrow is in order methinks!
We got him home then noticed his other wrist was a bit swollen & he wasn't walking just shuffling so, back to sick kids we went!

Thankfully it turns out his other wrist is ok & he was walking fine at hospital so we just need to monitor him.

I feel so sorry for him, two weeks with a cast

Re: Our little un has just broke his wrist :(

Awwww bless him! I hope he's ok? looks poorly sore!!!!

Did nobody come to speak to you??????? How long was your poor little boy made to carry on at playgroup woth a poorly arm????? Make sure you demand answers from the playgroup when you ring....How could they not of noticed an injury like that? They should know exactly what he did, and if they didn't then why didn't they????? A fall like that shouldn't of gone unrecognised!!! and they should of certainly noticed him breaking it..... You should of been told as soon as they knew something wasn't right and you should of been given the accident record to sign...

    Accidents happen, imcompetence shouldn't..

A little boy in the setting I work in fell awkwardly breaking his little wrist after outdoor play, my colleague didn't notice because of his coat but sent him into me as he'd grazed his face... I thought he'd done something from the way he was crying and he was pulling at his coat, after gently taking it off him I saw his wrist should of been bent at that angle, so after alerting the setting manager, I comforted him while she went to ring Mum straightaway... I got the colleague outside to fill out the accident book as she'd witnessed the fall, and I countersigned it as I dealt with it.... Mum wasn't interested in the why's and wherefors, she just wanted to take her little boy to hospital, but we rang later with a full explanation of what happened and the accident book was waiting when she popped in. No parent should be left wondering what on earth had happened to their child while in someone elses care, Children are too precious

Hope you get some answers, and let us know what the response is.

2 weeks? He is extremely lucky, very lucky.

Brother broke his wrist and was in a cast for 6 weeks and had to have a support strap for a few more weeks after that. He broke it in so many places he had to have t wires inserted also.

6 months on and it's still not as strong as it was, dont think it will ever be.

We'll see what playgroup say tomorrow, he's not a complainer though & my wife didn't really realise till his wrist swelled up so I think it might have been easy for someone to miss. Like you say though, that depends on what happened!

Probably a greenstick fracture- very common in kids of these age. They usually heal quickly and fully.

Re: Our little un has just broke his wrist :(

My brother never knew his wrist was broken, not for a minute or so, until he looked at his hand and it was bent up to his arm.

Kinda like when I split my ear into two, had no idea until a pint of blood same dripping down lol.

Sorry to hear the little un isn't the best, hope it doesn't get too itchy for him.

Re: Our little un has just broke his wrist :(

Thanks guys, he seems fine with it but I've been whacked in the face by it a few times as he forgets it's there!
I've heard this greenstick term brought up by a few people now, hospital didn't mention that but I'll need to look into it

Little ones are hard as nails aren't they? I'd be crying in the corner with a broken wrist I reckon!

Well, it seems he may now also have chicken pox! That'll be a nightmare if he gets itchy under his cast!!

Re: Our little un has just broke his wrist :(

Well, back to hospital for us again as he had a rash that didn't pass the 'glass trick' Turns out it was nothing but didn't get home until 10.15pm & had one tired but brave little boy! Watched as they drew blood & didnt even wince, braver than his mum & dad that's for sure!

Turns out it's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henoch%...6nlein_purpura (a mild case by the looks of it)

EDIT Lionk doesnt work due to funny spelling. Its 'Henoch–Schönlein purpura'

Re: Our little un has just broke his wrist :(

Well, he went back in yesterday for more blood tests. Just had a call from my wife saying they've asked he go back in again for more tests as there was something indicating associated kidney issues.

I just feel so sorry for him
