Cool Make clean versions of movies

Ok, I am not a parent but I have a younger sibling.

So far to filter movies, I use Movie maker or simply WARP thorough the movie. It works for movies like Jhonny English or Get Smart to remove nudity. However, if it's a movie like Black Hawk down, its difficult to remove swearing without watching the whole movie once and noting down crucial points and then editing audio!

Re: Make clean versions of movies

You know if there is one thing I will never understand its how some people think its ok to expose kids to violence like black hawk down but not the sight of some boobies or an arse.

Personally, I wouldn't censor anything but I really don't get how sex is somehow worse than images of people killing each other.

This. Any parent who thinks it's fine for little Johnny to watch unnamed Somali #47 being exploded by an RPG, and later whoever-it-is bleeding to death after being impaled by an unexploded RPG, yet completely unacceptable for them to hear Ewan MacGregor utter an offensive syllable needs their reproduction licence revoked.

Re: Make clean versions of movies

Agreed... kids are going to hear swear words sooner or later, they need to learn when it is appropriate (if at all) to use them, rather than just have them eliminated from their lives.

And if they're too young for that, then they shouldn't be watching the film.

Re: Make clean versions of movies

I have four children, all in their teens, that I have tried as long as I can to prevent them from hearing or seeing anything that I think will pollute their minds, especially from watching TV. I discourage them even to watch the PG movies. With your invention, I know that we will have more movie selections to watch. I thank you very much, and I pray that God will bless you always for what you have done.
    From that clearplay site!

Bwahaha...... Seriously, these kids are going to be all killing themselves or joining the cult by their 20s.

Re: Make clean versions of movies

I wonder if all that 'removed' content ends up in some sort of parallel universe, like the other side of a black hole, making nothing but the most obscene, foul-languaged, boob-filled piece of audio-visual monstrocity the universe has ever seen?

    Oh yeah, that was 'Porkies'.
    And I quite liked it

Re: Make clean versions of movies

Imo aslong as its not constant i don't see the reason to hide swearing or nudity?
Its the parents responsiblity to explain thats its wrong, and for nudity there going to see it anyway

Re: Make clean versions of movies

As said before, if there is an age restriction on a film and they are under then the child shouldn't be watching it.

A PG is exactly as it says, Parental Guidence, it is down to the parent to decide whether or not that particular film is suitable.

Why people think it is ok to ignore these warnings/ratings I have no idea.

Re: Make clean versions of movies

Have to agree with the majority - if you feel a film needs censoring before your kids see it then you shouldn't let them watch it at all. However, I'm not personally in favour of restricting kids to films that the bfcc has classified as "age appropriate" - they get it wrong in a lot of cases. If you've watched a film and think that it's appropriate for your children to watch it, you should let them. Children tend to be a lot more mature than we give them credit for...

I will, however, moot one exception. Eddie Izzard. He is hilarious, but overly fond of the F word, and while I enjoy a good F every now and then, it's just bad English to use it like an apostrophe. So, when I got the latest Eddie Izzard collection for Christmas, imagine my delight to find that a couple of the shows have been redone with a bleeped soundtrack! Not only does it get rid of the vast majority of the unnecessary swearing, but it also occasionally bleeps perfectly innocent words for comedic effect

    Zombie strippers?

Don't bother, it's crap. Stick to the classics.

edit: To put this in context, my son is 4. we got out Planet 51 the other day to watch. In the first 30 seconds, there is teenagers kissing in a car on lovers lane. We were just about OK with that. Then a huge alien turns up and the army open fire with every single m16 ever created. At that point we turned off.

No guns at age four for shooty* Jnr. And I don't care if you think that's OTT: he loves Finding nemo, Cars, Toy Story, Alphablocks (possibly the coolest cartoon ever made, by the way), Number Jacks, Thomas the tank engine, postman pat, Thunderbirds, Stingray (some guns in those last two occasionally, admittedly, but hardly fired from memory).

His godmother bought him the star Wars self assembly clone blast rifle for his birthday.

she nearly didn't make it out of the house.

Edit 2: my mate left his two kids with his parents the other week. 4 and 2. His parents put on Team America: World Police and left the kids to it. They were rather surprised when my friend freaked out. "What's wrong? it's just a puppet show, like Thunderbirds, right?"

Edit 3: Not considered nudity in film actually. Hmmmm..... tricky. In the mornings, we walk around naked before getting in the shower and stuff. Doesn't freak him out. And he's already aware of the existence of "boobs", which I suppose one can hardly avoid, and he doesn't attach any particular significance to them yet.

Strangely enough, I don't remember Penelope getting involved in quite the same antics.
