On the matter of gaming, it all depends on what you're playing I guess. For CS:S or something, it's fine for me (obviously most of the commands on the left side only), but if you play something that requires both sides of the keyboards, while you're otherwise occupied (ie with the mouse, or in my case a wheel) then these split keyboards are useless. If you're just a FPS guy, then they're usually not an issue at all, and you can have the best of both worlds. Obviously you don't get the additional keys found on some dedicated gaming keyboards (such as the G15), just a few limited keys along the top, and the usual multi-media commands.
Wow, so many replies! I haven't been playing many games recently, more writing essays and IM'ing. I've got an MX5000 at home, love the keyboard but it constantly disconnects, so wireless is a big no no!
I've had a look at the Cherry CyMotion Expert and the Microsoft Ergonomic 4000, both look really good, I'm not too sure about the placement of keys on the latter tho. Any experiences with this board??
Cheers.
I think a G15 would be pointless for you, so a G11 would be good. It's the exact same board, just without the LCD Screen, and though i find the screen really useful, i don't think you would benifit enough for the extra £15 or so it costs you.
G11 for you... Can't go wrong with Logitech.
I didn't mention which 'board I was referring too, but my post directly above yours was detailing the Ergonomic 4000 if you hadn't guessed.
For pure typing, I think the Ergo is great - it takes a little getting used to (I'm talking hours rather than weeks here), but it does feel more natural. It's corded too.
The comfort curve is nicer to use than the ergonomic one. Herb
You're missing a trick there matey - wireless is FANTASTIC and I wouldn't be without it.
There are countless reports on the web of the MX5000, MX3000 and the DiNovo Laser Desktop all having problems with the connection dropping, because of Logitech's Bluetooth implementation.
What you want is a wireless (radio not infrared) keyboard which doesn't use Bluetooth, or a Bluetooth keyboard which isn't from Logitech. I'd go with the former, from Logitech, if possible. I can sit on my sofa, use the PC on the projector, etc. Great!
Been reading this thread with interest.
- Im still on a 5 year old samsung board, but it biggining to age, and im also doing an increasing amount of typing/work on it.
its just a plan beige one, which clashes horrably with my otherwise 100% black/silver desk setup. But im worry i wont get on with an other colour. Certainly im not a fan of black keyboards. I also dislike, and have no need for, a whole host of extra media/gaming buttons/rollers and all that jazz.
- But i think the nub of it is that the most important thing is the feel/quality. And thats the only thing you cant see from the pictures!
However, i might now be tempted to invest in the Cherry and see how that goes.
- Alternativly, what are peoples thoughts on the flat 'laptop style' keyboards?
Daniel
Fair enough, thats a no then...
Nothing beats an Apple wireless keyboard
