Does Vista work with an 8800GTX ok?

My friend said there is only a none MS certified driver for it, so it will cause trouble with Vista but he is wrong sometimes so thought I would check.

I really want to get Vista but that is holding me back. Also, I see people on the net saying that their 8800GTX is actually a bit slower in Vista than it is in XP. I could handle slightly slower, especially if it will get better in the future when DX10 starts working and drivers are updated and stuff, but how much slower are we talking?

(Sorry for talking in this thread, but its probably better than starting another Vista thread)

The 8800 isn't fully utilised yet because nVidia don't have any decent drivers. The only major problem, apart from a slow down, is that your Windows Experience Index will score 1. This won't affect your performance, its just Vista doesn't recognise the card yet. When DX10 games come out, hopefully nVidia will have their **** together and it'll be a good card.

Why dont you have dual boot winxp on c: vista on d:...............don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Yeah, there is always this option, as long as you're willing to buy both versions. This is what I do, XP is usefull to have just for those few programs that don't work properly.

A good implementation in Vista is the Compatibility mode. If something doesn't quite work in Vista, Right-click, Properties, Compatibility, and set it to Windows XP. This solves about 85-90% of problems.

Indeed a problem if starting from new, but the guys who already have winxp, IMO it's silly to upgrade..........but must admit am not sure if you can put a cheapy OEM vista on another partition.

As in have XP on one partition and OEM vista on another? Yup - perfectly possible.

I think im going to get another hard disk and put Vista on that.

I just need to check I'll have enough power cause it will be my 3rd hard disk, and I actually wanted a big 4th disk too for backups. I think I'll be ok though. Just need to check on a PSU calculator, and also need to check I have enough power leads from my PSU.

Yeah, you can. I have another HDD for Vista, but you can partition.

Nope...Vista driver support for 64 bit is fine.
I have had a problem with my Wifi but it just needs me to concentrate i think and that'll be sorted.

I fugure by the time everything moves on a bit more to 64-bit, i'll buy a new operating system, or upgrade to Vista Ultimate 64
