Do I get 1 x 8800GTX or 2 x 8800GTS?

I'm torn between getting either a single 8800GTX in my new PC or spending a little more money and getting a pair of 8800GTS in SLI mode.

The case I'm going for is quite small and compact, being the Lian Li PC-A05, this can fit either of the cards comfortably and I'm having it customised to include additional 120mm intakes at the top and a blower on the back to imrpove the already good cooling properties.


So, in terms of performance under both XP and Vista, am I better off getting a single 8800GTX and waiting for price drops or should I dive in and get a pair of 8800GTS?

A single card is always more efficient and compatible than SLi. One 8800GTX is more than enough grunt for anything you throw at it, as a matter of fact your CPU will be a bottleneck. The case is interesting, but it's overly small dontcha think?

Absolutely
The GTX will outrun, albeit not by a huge margin, SLi GTS. Also not that many games are that good on SLi, used to run 7900GTX's on SLi and I wasted my money.
On the Dell 24 that I have it runs all games full res all eye candy and dosent break a sweat.
Nice choice of case as well.

single GTX FTW. very much doubt you would ever get 2 gts in that case without the whole thing turning nuclear anyway

Well people have said some good things about the case over on a couple of overclocking forums I've been using for research and I'm modding it to include extra air intakes at the top and an exhaust directly over the graphics card(s).

Main reason for getting a case this small is my g.f's rig takes up all the damn space under the desk!

Guess it's a pretty resounding GTX vote though so now to figure out what to do with an extra £100
