Want to buy a base unit.

HI there - thinking about getting a new base unit to replace my mums PC (used for business, not interested in gaming).
Needs to base unit only.
Normally i'd be able to get anything i wanted from Scan, Dabs etc but the thing is i want to buy it THIS AFTERNOON from the Derby area - all i can think of is PC World or maybe Staples.

Any ideas welcome of specific links or suggestions. Cheers

Edit: One idea is to get a mac mini and install XP (she is familiar and needs at least one Windows accounting app that she is familiar with), but that will already add one extra layer of 'complexity' that is not desirable.

Also consider that mac minis are really overpriced, why exactly does it need to be bought today anyway??

Makes much more sense to get some parts next day delivery and leave it a day.

Just use Dell.
They arent amazing gaming machines but if its going to be used just for word processing/email/internet you ownt get better any cheaper.

Which shop exactly can you walk into and pick up a Dell?

I am only able to sort out the tech problems once in a while (which I have now done) but any future probs now have to wait a few weeks.

Ack, sorry I missed this. There's a couple of places in the Eagle Centre like Dixons, on Babington lane there is Potts which is more of an independant electical shop but they do have a couple of base units usually. Used to be an evesham and a simply computers somewhere as well.

Evesham isn't a million miles away. I don't know what they have pre built but i'm sure you'd get something. Bit late I know but for future reference lol.

Well the thing is..no one is going to recommend anything you can buy in PC world..as we really don't know whats good and whats not.

All I would (or would have) suggested is stick to the main brands..hp (as much as i hate them), toshiba etc.. not Medion or E computers etc..

*nods* people homed in on the base unit bit, perhaps if you'd titled it 'need Derby local to suggest computer retail shops' it would have been better interpreted

There used to be tons of independants, but they keep closing down. Potts is still going strong (amazing place if you ever want an cables or just random electrical stuff - got my thermal grease from them for eg.) but they're probably the only ones who've lasted.
