    Have a look on the board for bulging caps - a LOT of Tiny machines had this problem.

    Have a look at all of the capacitors on the motherboard and see if the tops of any of them are bulged. If they are they will need replacing by someone competent with a soldering iron.

    Otherwise, given the age of the system, salvage the bits you can re-use and start again!

    The Athlon will work in a DDR based motherboard, cause the memory controller is on the northbridge, not on the CPU

    But whats the point in buying an antique socket A board now? When he can buy a 939 board for the same amount and a 939 processor for £20... he will have to purchase new memory either way
