Well, the Asus P5B Deluxe (Wi-Fi) looks like a good choice.
However, is spending extra $50 and getting the P5K Deluxe (Wi-Fi) instead really worth it? Judging in terms of future upgrades support and overall quality?
I'm trying to save as much money as possible, but looks like it will be hard, if one wants a quality rig.
Allright.
After giving the topic some thought, I decided not to purchase the E4300. Instead I will wait for the expected price drop on July 22nd for the Q6600. I will also get the Nvidia 8800GTS 320mb, which should be cheaper in July as well. I expect other components to be cheaper as well, so hopefully, I will be able to spend the same amount of cash and get a better: mobo/PSU/RAM. The only thing is that the CPU will cost me twice as much (E4300 vs. Q6600), but the 8800 gts shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for the replies!
if there is not much of a difference in price between the p5b and p35 board go with the new p35.
STick to E4300 if u need to go for it now!! and if u get the p35 board you can sell of your E4300 wont loose much and get a new cpu later too!!
I was in that camp originally, but with the 4300 clocking so well, I wonder the virtue in going Quad core for now, considering the limited support for processors anyway, and wait for the Penryn range (which the p35 will support).
Just buy it, how long are you going to keep on playing the waiting game?
Deo Adjuvante non Timendum
I really don't enjoy waiting for July 22nd. My computer is extremely slow, 6+ yrs old. Only HDD/optical drives updates.
Since I don't like upgrading my comp a lot. I think it is smart to wait till July 22nd to purchase the Q6600. This quadcore CPU should keep me in the game for quite a time I presume.
Exactly what I did, went for an e4300 at £63 (w/ google checkout, granted that's now gone) with a gigabyte p35c-ds3r board. Hopeful for at least 3ghz when my ram arrives.
I didn't think quad core would be worth it even after the price drops for me since I don't think I'll have much use for it.
When the 45nm Penryn's come out, should I have a burning desire for a quad core by then, hopefully they may start at around £100 or less.
out of intrest does anyone know what the Q6600 will cost when the price drops?
Well they're saying a 50% drop, but we'll have to wait and see.
Since we always get shafted, probably around £150 I reckon.
Hmm. What mobos will take 2 of 'em?
P.S. What's TXT?
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."
Maybe they're trying to shift stock before the price drops. I bet they're not selling too well atm with everyone waiting for the well publicized price drops.
hmm $266, and an exchange rate of about 1.96:1 = about £135 +VAT, or £160.
I'm waiting too - I'll jump when they it around £175. I'd be surprised if they hit £160 as that's the price per 1000 chips to the reseller and they've presumably got to have a margin on them (but at least we know what they're paying for them and can decide what's reasonable).
I plan on putting together a quad core pc later when the price drops but not sure whether its the road to go... basically I intend to alot of 3d modelling and need a machine that can be a very good workstation (preferable 4gb ram) and good for rendering while also allowing me to play the occasional game (2142 etc) Thing is not sure what mobo and ram combo would allow me to go for a good overclock on the Q6600 etc? Any insight from fellow Q6600 users?
