Thanks, Clunk!
This is my first time overclocking and wondered if you can help.
I'm using the P5K-E board with the latest bios set to it default and a Q6600 processor.
When I run CPU-Z the Multiplier shows 6, I thought this was supposed to be 9.
The other settings it shows are:
Clock 1860.2
Multiplier x6
Bus Speed 310.0 mhz
Rated fsb 1240.0 mhz
Can somebody please point me in the right direct to over clock this processor.
I did try changed the FSB frequency in the bios to 310 and setting the multiplier to 9 but still cpu-z showed me a multiplier of 6.
Many thanks,
Dave.
Click the troubleshooting guide in my sig, number 9.
Also, read the guide, its all in there.
Thank you Clunk,
I shall go and read.
Regards,
DAve.
Hmm, tried the obvious fro your FAQ item number 9 but it still shows x6.
Sometimes it jumpts to x9.
I went back into bios loaded all factory defaults then disabled the speedstep again, rebooted.
Showed x6 still.
Went back into bios and set the multiplier to x9 back in windows shows x6 arhhh.
It is as thou windows has a speedstep of its own.
Sorted it.
I missed one of your settings, thankyou.
Which one did you miss?
thats a good question, I will go through it again.
Sorry I run a shop (computer shop) and its manic at the moment runing backwards and forwards.
ok, I am a beginner of this so please bare with me
Just bought a P5KC and to that 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC8500, QX6700 CPU
The problem is that I cant get the mobo to boot in DDR2-1066 !? (all settings Auto, it boots the memory in 800Mhz)
I have set the DRAM frequency to DDR2-1067
DRAM timings 5-5-5-15
DRAM voltage to 2.2V
everything else is Auto
After POST I get info that I have a incompatible CPU, press F1 to resume...
Any tips ?? what settings should I have ???
Please read the guide, its all in there.
More specifically for the RAM, click on the troubleshooting guide in my sig, number 11.
yup, I have read your excellent guides
And I have seen the number 11, but I am still stuck...
Why "incompatible CPU" press F1 to resume ???? and after that something about file missing...
Do I also have to adjust the FSB frequency and the PCI-E frequency, NOT let them be auto ???
And most surprisingly, why do some memory modules work at PC8500 with only change of DRAM frequency to DDR2-1067 and then the mobo fix the rest but with these crucials it wont work ?? have I had just luck before ?

I'm sure people just sign up to make me keep repeating this same answer (I'm kidding by the way )
Right.
If you follow the guide, you will have the RAM at 1:1.
If you dont follow the guide, you will do what you have just done!
No DDR2 RAM will automatically run at 1066Mhz automatically in any board that I know of, purely for the reasons in the troubleshooting guide.
In a nutshell, you are setting the RAM too high, and then overclocking the FSB , which just raises the RAM further, and runs it way out of spec, and thats why your computer is telling you NO!
Read the Overclocking guide for beginners part 1 in my sig, and then read the P5K add on, and if you do that, you will see that all the info is already there for you
yeh, yeh, I will try to read it again
Thanks for taking your time
Ps. In my other computer with P5K dlx I put in OCZ PC8500 and I just altered the DRAM frequency and it all worked fine (and it worked in my last P5B dlx mobo also)... so this tweaking is really something new to me.. Ds.
