does p4c800e-deluxe support prescott

does the above mobo support the upcoming prescott. if it does, do you think i should get p4c800e-deluxe with p4 2.4c now and then upgrade to prescott, or go for amd 64 system.

There is doubts as to wether any of the Canterwood or springdale motherboard will support the new presscots as there is not much known about them...I heard that they will not be supported!...But im not sure if thats true or not!

Yes I do. I don't think Asus can really say yet, personally i wouldn't risk it and even tho i've got a intel p4c class system I'm really wanting an a64 system now

I think the canterwood boards support something that was initially called 'prescott' by intle, however since then intel have changed the specs of the prescott chip so that initial compatibility is gone... (i think it was something about the amount of power it draws and supplying it) i'm sure there is another thread here somewhere about his so do a search for it (or on google)

Boards like the Asus P4C800 are already able to deliver around 90 amps into 1.55V, which is 140 watts. Some of the Abit boards which are already equipped with 4 phase power regulators can supply 150+ watts.

What Ethos is saying is that they ought to be able to supply the required power without any problem. Also as the prescott cpus are meant to be out early feb I strongly suspect Asus, et al have actually tested their mobos against engineering samples at the very least. Also - if you aren't going to buy a Prescott for the first 6 months then why get a socket 478 mobo? Do you know they're changing socket again this year?

Honestly I'd say wait until after prescott and desktop A64 dual channel CPUs and mobos are in the market before making your decision. Either that or buy a high end P4 / 32-bit AMD system now and sit on it for a year or so as there's loads of stuff in the pipeline this year (timescales are off the top of my head so they might be totally wrong) - PCI Express replacing PCI and AGP (later end of year), DDR II replacing normal DDR (end of year), Socket T from intel replacing Socket 478 (spring / summer), Socket 939 from AMD for dektop A64's replacing Socket 754 (spring / summer), BTX form factor possibly replacing ATX form factor (not sure if it will happen this year or not).

Seriously - seems like you have a good CPU and RAM so why not upgrade your mobo and GFX card for now? Or wait it out with what you have - don't get me wrong I'm a sucker for buying stuff I don't need but do you need the extra performance? And how happy will you be if your new mobo, CPU and RAM are all totally obsolete by the end of the year?

Also - if you are going to upgrade your GFX card I believe the next gen ATI and nVidia chips are due out before Spring too - so might be worth just hanging on for a bit.

The early prescotts will be supported on the Canterwood boards but AFAIK thats BEFORE Intel move to 90nm fab so there not really 'Prescotts'. This is all under NDA ATM so no one can really say a great deal about it!
