Yes but imo a monitor shouldnt let little insects inside it - there should be filters in place to stop things like that getting through any vents, and other than vents there shouldnt be any sort of hole that lets anything get in, should there? So its not fit for purpose...

Monitors aren't supposed to explode, killing everyone in a 10 foot radius, but you dont see that advertised as a feature either

No, but the fact it exploded means you can't use it as a monitor anymore

ok, did the sensible thing - changing the background colour to black makes the insects disappear

actually, i changed it back to white briefly yesterday and thing they have gone down the pub - no sign anymore, but have had a 60w light bulb shining at the back for the past 3 days hoping thats attracted them out.

You need to leave the monitor off, and get some clear, double sided tape and put it on the bulb.

I had a TFT monitor a while back which suffered from this insect problem. I figured they didn't get in there while I had the monitor, but rather the eggs were already present (after being laid during manufacture, storage or while being shipped from the manufacturer) and hatched.

I RMA'd and got a new one which no longer has any bugs

Okay this thread is cursed... thats the only explanation I can come up with..

the day after reading this thread I've picked about 20 damn ants off my LCD screen and thank god the one that made it under the screen found something better to do than play FEAR with me, Its a little difficult to kill enemies when you got an ant trying to point out bad guys to you!

I cant seem to find where they are comming from, my only guess is that they climb the cables from my floor because there are none on my desk, I even sprayed ant killer around the base!

    *sigh..

    Re: Insects in my monitor!

Ressurecting this thread to complain pointlessly. I have two dead thrips/thunderflies in my otherwise excellent Belinea 10 19 20 LCD monitor. They got in there last year. They're fading a bit in brightness, but one is in a very prominent area, just left of centre, and it's really annoying. I always seem to end up staring at it.

I was so horrified at getting one dead bug in my monitor that I blu-tacked bits of paper soaked with insect repellant (jungle formula, which sort of works against midges, but maybe not thrips), around and overlapping the edge of my monitor and near the back vents (but not obscuring them, in case of fire). It didn't work. I got many more flies, only most of them eventually left, leaving just the two of them.

It's so annoying getting them, because you're constantly paranoid that the damned things are going to get stuck there to haunt you forever. And because you know they're attracted to the light and warmth, you have to turn your monitor off when you see them. I remember wishing I had a backup CRT handy last year to use instead.

I haven't found hitting/tapping the monitor either at the sides or near the bug itself to be effective in getting rid of them. I also tried the vaccuum cleaner around the vents and the edges a in a hope the suction would get to them, but nope. But I'm paranoid, because I think I heard that MVA/PVA screens like the Belinea 10 19 20 are a bit less tolerant of being messed with than your typical monitor, which uses TN technology, and so it's probably a bad idea to go touching the actual screen too much. My dad's TN monitor is in a somewhat scratched state despite never being messed with much.

The very same day, this year, where I was saying that the absymally non-existant, wet, dull Summer we've had here this year has at least made it so that I have no extra thrips in my monitor.. I returned home to find.. a thrip in my monitor. Thankfully, it disappeared without dying on the front of the monitor, I think. My PC's been dead for so long the monitor hasn't had a chance to get thrips. Probably now that I've said that, by the time I get my monitor working with my PC again, a giant fly nest will have hatched inside the monitor and it will be 99% dead thrip.
