how to power a bodge - epia system?

    hi

i want to build an epia system to use as a linux box / download box / spare system. the idea is to get an

    epia MB,
    256mb dimm,
    notebook hard disc.

    oh thats it .

basically i want to MOUNT it into my exisiting pc, in a spare 5.25 bay. if i went for the VIA EPIA CL10000 with dual LAN, one LAN would go to my existing pc, one to an outside network connection. no need for optical drives as installations / moving files will be via network (and i always have usb for chucking in a dvd writer anyway). and KB/mouse will be split via the main pc and the epia via a usb KVM. video out goes to my LCD (which has dual input).

the question is, how do i power the damn thing? i don't want to use the psu in the case (as it would have to be on to power the epia, and i want the thing to be silent in use). any ideas?

You can get a small passive 110watt psu that power that and prolly fit in the drive bay below

hmm, having a look i can get a 55w one for £45. the idea would be to use this with the above hardware and a kvm encased in an old 5.25'' cd drive, motherboard back facing towards the front of the pc so u can access audio out / usb / kvm switch etc from the front...

or do you think it would kick out too much heat if placed in an unvenitlated casing?

    hit meh

1gig needs some kind of ventilation, even if its just holes above the cpu so it can get fresh air in. The 110W PSUs are pretty small and can power anything mini-itx can throw at em, the main PSU bricks are outside the case.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

looking at it, the nano itx board to be reduced soon measures just 12cm * 12cm with a 1ghz chip. hopefully i can get some vents near the back of the board next to the top fan of my coolermaster case

Just a thought, but what about mounting it in HDD cooler?

i'm actually got a cooldrive 3 and looking at it, i don't think i can fit in a 12cm wide mb, a kvm board, a dc-atx psu convertor, ram and a notebook hard disc.

the plan was to mount the MB with the connector end at the front, then put it behind a lian li drive front - then i could just flip down the front to get at the usb ports, spdif audio.... the network, KVM lead and video would loop back into the coolermaster case, then down through braiding, with the power to the back of my case - where they will plug straight into the outside world .
