    hi,
it was a total of 3 boards all tested with the same problem (vista 32 and premium) now i agree with you saying it would be on the forums but maybe people have just been replacing them for other models and not saying anything, i mean not everybody is on forums!.

i dont think its the mobo's problem, its a vista problem for sure so if you just use xp im sure you will be fine.

fyi: i think its to do with sata as its not reading or copying files on the install

As far as I know the BIOS options on both boards are the same.
(If you peel back the sticker on an ASUS P5K-E board, you will see Asus P5K Deluxe stencilled beneath it.)
I have a PK5-E. If anyone has any questions about it in particualar, I will happily answer what I can.

I hear you smellybumlove, but your original post in this thread did not say anything about VISTA being the problem, you simply stated " just dont get the premium 18th anniversary!", and I thought that was a strange comment because the Premium is supposed to be a very good motherboard. Anyway It has not put me off in the least, I just need to decide if it's worth paying the extra 40 quid for an Asus P5K Premium over the Asus P5K-E. and I am glad you got your probs sorted.

Then Eaglelake's due Q2 2008. Things are always moving along. The x38 are supposed to be available mid to late September and will probably be in limited supply - resulting in high prices. It will be a several weeks after launch before prices begin to settle and available is more widespread.

Yep but even at those prices, wont be far off what he is contemplating i.e. the PK5-E.

It's probably going to be a fair bit more. I could be wrong but in my opinion, they're not going to introduce them at around £140 because they will be in direct competition with the high end P35 boards. Now, they could discontinue these boards (i.e. P5K Deluxe, Abit IP36 Pro) or reduce them in price or the x38 boards are to be priced a fair bit higher. I'm betting on the latter. And the P5K-E is currently priced at what? ~£105

I know mate X38 boards are due in September around week 38, but I have no need for PCIE- 2.0 x16, and I expect the extra features of X38 boards will include some hefty price rises when they arrive. I've got all the parts here sitting on my table ready to be assembled, just waiting for my RMA refund, then I'll I'll grab one of those Asus boards I mentioned. I can't be waiting till September, my nerves are already stretched as it is, I'm just anxious to get this rig built.

Some good input there thanks. I am thinking that dual LAN and raid are not worth the extra even if I have to grab a WIFI card to replace the USB dongle I am currently used.

I am happy to loose the extras if the stability and overclocking options are there.

I will be running Vista, I will need to know my way round it for work but I may dual boot with XP.

The Asus P5K-E uses the same ICH9-R chipset as the Asus P5K Deluxe therefore the SATA RAID options are the same on both boards, the P5K-E also has WiFi. As for Dual booting ... if you have the hard drive capacity defo go for it!

I was going to go with the Gigabyte P35-DS4, but now I'm looking at the Asus P5K-E too.

    Confusing isn't it

At this rate it's probably going to boil down to whatever Scan has in stock at the time

Nice link thanks! P5K-E is leading the pack, however was reading custom PC just now and they recommend an Abit fatality Nvidia based board for £70. Knowing how quickly PC Hardware ages, I have to say that a cheap overclockable board also appeals......
