The sound upgrade will be noticable in the games with EAX 5HD and the better postioning will help depending on the quality of the speaker/headphones you use.
I very rarely use headphones for games but found the positioning in a normal set of stereo headphones to be amazing.
DVD I dont know .

Thanks guys, I use headphones mainly. I got a pair of 5.1 channel Trust and they're good for movies and games. The 5.1 is not perfect but since I watch DVDs/play games at night it's ideal. I also have a set of Logitech z640 speakers but they don't get used often.
How does the soundcard affect gaming performance? I'm pretty sure my Audigy gives me choppy sound in some games.

I keep getting told there is not may games that make that much use of EAX 5 and open AL will be the future. so maybe your better off with this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=579624
Not that I'm an expert. But it does have DTS for your movies.

Have a read of this

A soundcard just takes a load of the CPU and processors the sounds via the card saving CPU and giving slightly better sound it also can increase your FPS to but not by a lot.
Oh and as for headphones I've got some Sennheiser :
