Thumbs down Sound issue windows volume mutes everything

Just installed Vista 64 on my new PC, Q6600, 2gb RAM, 6600GT(place holder), 2 x 250gb HDD, Gigbyte MOBO

Initially i installed it & everything worked fine, installed the MOBO sound drivers(Gigabyte GA-P325 ds3r board, Realtec HD aurdio drivers) however the minute i changed the volume via the windows volume controller in the bottom right hand corner of the screen(clock etc is) or if i changed the volume on my keyboard(again, adjusts the windows volume) it muted my headset completely. Everywhere i looked windows said it was working fine, enabled & unmuted etc. All the sound bars move with the music & everything looks fine, except there is no sound from my headset.

Swopping the USb port it uses & making vista re-install the drivers makes it work again, but once again, everytime i use the volume keys on my keyboard or use the windows volume slider to change the volume it kills the sound off with no explanation or evidence of why it did so.

Has anyone had any similar experience? Or know of a way around it?

    cheers guys.

EDIT: another oddity is the fact that each time i un-plug the headset(Sharkoon majestic 5.1) from a USB port, having adjusted the volume in windows & killed it off), that USB port becomes 'tainited', ie if i plug it in again, windows wont install the drivers, and the sound wont work. However if i use a different USB port, then windows installs the software & my sound comes back

Re: Sound issue windows volume mutes everything

Looking on the makers website here - http://www.sharkoon.nl/enghtml/d_treiber.htm

it appears as though there is a Majestic II and a Majestic III also...

I see the Majestic 3 has beta drivers for 32 bit Vista, and the Majestic 2 has 64 bit drivers, but I see no mention of a 'Majestic 1'...

Which revision of the headset do you have and what version of Vista are you using ? (32 bit or 64 bit)

Are you certain there are Vista drivers for your version of headset ? Have you tried one of the Vista drivers from that page ?

Re: Sound issue windows volume mutes everything

iv tried all the majestic drivers, it installs it without any problems but refuses to run/open, my guess is its clashing with Vista/MOBO sound drivers. & Im on Vista 64, using the majestic II headset revision.

Sorry, should have mentioned them in the original post. Thanks again.

edit: Tried the version III vista 32bit drivers, but installed those & vista wouldnt accept it because it isnt digitally signed, surely if sharkoon created these drivers, they'd test them(and see the fact that vista refused them point blank) and work out a way around them: ie getting them signed.
