Re: New build won't power up

@wither2000 The power up - shut down - power up cycle is the norm for an Abit IP 35, mine does/did exactly the same although now only if I change any BIOS settings, the problem you may have is your RAM voltage as the motherboard defaults to 1.8v, I am using some OCZ Platinum which can run at 1.9v so by tapping away at the delete key as soon as I pressed the power button I was able to get into the BIOS screen and after changing the voltage (I went for 2.0) the rig runs sweetly.

Re: New build won't power up

Sorry for the threadjack but just to say that my non booting PC now has booted up after clearing the CMOS. Any one feel they know the reason behind the need to do this? I havent even looked into changing any bios settings yet and already needed to clear it.

Did you flash the BIOS? Sometimes you need to do a manual CMOS clear after this.

I have seen the CMOS needing resetting after a bad system crash, or after a power spike.

If it happens again it's either the mobo or PSU. Despite what was said earlier I've seen PSUs able to spin the fans without booting.

One other thought, if you have a loose screw in your case it could cause shorts, but might then move after you opened the case up and had a look-see.

Re: New build won't power up

I have exactly the same problem but fortunately I am building 2 new PCs at the moment so I can swap some components around.
I test the motherboards out of the case using a Motherboard Testing Kit (£5 from Maplins). It includes a Power Switch, Reset Switch, Power LED, HDD LED and a Speaker.
First, I tried an Asus P5K Deluxe Motherboard with an Intel Q6600 (G0 Stepping) and got the same problem as the O.P. i.e. System powers up, beeps once then resets and loops around. Pressing Delete does not bring up the Bios.
Next up a Gigabyte GA-G33M Motherboard and an Intel E6320 Core 2 Duo CPU. Everything is fine and I can boot into the Bios.
Both boards have 2 sticks of 1GB Corsair 6400 RAM (CAS 4-4-4-12 on the Asus and CAS 5-5-5-12 on the Gigabyte) but no drives. Both boards have Intel's stock coolers on the CPU's.
When I swapped the Chips around, both systems were able to boot into the Bios.
This means the components are O.K. separately but the combination of the Asus P5K Deluxe Motherboard with an Intel Q6600 CPU gives the repeating reset problem.
I am going on holiday shortly so may have to put this on the back burner for a week.

Re: New build won't power up

Just got the RMA results back - turns out the chip was the faulty component!
