    Gigabyte Mobo Overclocking

I'm looking into building a new PC and specifically at the Gigabyte mobos as they seem to do everything I want. Currently looking at the P35-DS3R or perhaps the P35-DS3P if i can stretch my budget a bit more.

My question is after looking at a few reviews I've noticed they seem to complain about the voltages not being clearly displayed or something along those lines, and that unless you know exactly what you are doing, you are likely to damage something. From what I can tell these reviews seem to be based on the earlier revisions of the boards, and there seem be a newer versions out now.

My question is: has anyone got one of these (newer or older), and what's your experience with overclocking on them?. Are the newer revisions any better? I've overclocked my current system a bit but never done anything major (mainly cos it can't go that high before it gets unstable), so I'd like it nice and easy on my first try.

I'd be most likely getting an E6750 to go with it if that helps.

    Hi master811

I have a p35-ds3r and have no trouble overclocking my e6600 to 3ghz..would easily go higher too.
There's a few threads about in various forums mentioning power looping issues where the mobo keeps rebooting when it doesn't like a particular voltage. I haven't had this issue though..i have a revision 1.1 board using the original F2 bios.

Hope this was of some assistance.
    Cheers, Roo

    Re: Gigabyte Mobo Overclocking

You can adjust the voltages on my older one, but unless you are into serious O/Cing why bother...as I've O/Cd the E4300 and E2140 to over 3ghz just on stock volts and stock on the memory......3ghz is a useful speed and you are not over stressing components on your computer.

It was strange the E2140 was the better overclocker but hit a wall around 3.17Ghz and of course the AF7 really started struggling..........hope the E6750 is an exc o/cer for you.
2nd computer gigabyte P965ds3p, 7770 E2140@2.9ghz, corsair HX520 6 years stable, replaced now with E8400@3.9ghz and will overclock more when I'm bored.

So would you say its easy to know what voltages to increase (if needed) as the reviews appear to just that the P35 gigabyte boards only tell you if its 'OK' or not. Are they correct in saying that you need to know the actual voltage that the CPU runs at before you start OCing as the boards use absolute values rather than relative?

    Re: Gigabyte Mobo Overclocking

Well actually i overclocked mine just at stock bios voltages and later reduced cpu voltage from 1.35 to 1.25 for lower temps. I didn't 'need' to know the cpu voltage beforehand.
When you change something like voltages, the mobo reboots twice which is weird the first time it happens, it's just a feature of the board. (you can of course alter the fsb and nb voltages too which exhibits the same thing).

No problems with this board for me up to now. Owned it for a few weeks.

    Re: Gigabyte Mobo Overclocking

I have DS3P Ver 3.3 for a while now with E4300 at 2.9Ghz generic 2GB 6400 RAM on stock volts and its been 100% stable.

I have a good HSF and a small fan on the N bridge added as it seemed quiet hot just for luck. It may OC more but I can't be bothered it's more than fast enough for me at this as I'm not a hard core gamer or graphics man.
