    Just ordered my first laptop!

I've never owned a laptop before but I've taken the plunge and ordered my first one, a Dell Inspiron 1520. Here's the spec:

    Inspiron 1520
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.20GHz, 800Mhz, 4MB Cache
15.4" UltraSharp Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) TFT Display with TrueLife
Espresso Brown Colour with Microsatin Finish & 2.0mp camera
    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
    200GB SATA Hard Drive (7200rpm)
    Internal 8X DVD+/- RW Drive
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT 256MB DDR2

...and a few other bits and bobs. Ordered it with a 6 cell battery and ordered an extra 9 cell battery just in case. Should be here in a week or two!

I'm very excited and you can expect pictures when it arrives. Please refrain from negative Inspiron comments until after Christmas, let me enjoy it whilst it's new, hehehe.

*edit* forgot to add one all important bit, it totalled up to just over £900.

    [reserved for negative Inspiron comment]

Looks like a nice spec to be honest - hard drive especially looks rather tasty. Not sure on the colour mind - guess I'd have to see that in the flesh to make a judgement.

The colour was a tough one! Black or White I figured were too common so decided against that. The other colours I thought were a bit too loud. The Espresso Brown on the other hand says "Smart, sophisticated...but cool". At least, that's what I'm hoping it says!

Dell Inspition - hmmm - well...

Seriously - looks a good spec, but it is intertesting how the very low starting price creeps up when you start upping the spec and adding a few 'bits and bobs' - still looks pretty good value for money though - I hope you enjoy it!

I have an Inspiron 9400 which has the 17" (1920x1200) version of the UltraSharp screen range, they are glorious screens, you'll love it Very good choice all round I'd say.

Re: Just ordered my first laptop!

They really are good laptops (the Inspiron 1520s and 1720s). My girlfriend's father got a 1720 and its pretty a rock solid laptop. I was looking at getting one myself before I decided to buy (and later build) a desktop.

Re: Just ordered my first laptop!

Thanks for all the positive feedback, I'm even more excited now!

According to Dell's order status gizmo, it says it's in Production as of the 16th and set to be delivered on or before the 28th. Yay

Unless they're experiencing high-demand for Christmas and things, then you can expect it a lot sooner than the 28th. Dell are (generally) rather conservative with their estimates.

Re: Just ordered my first laptop!

Your order has been dispatched as of 19/11/2007
Hello! Good going Dell, that's some seriously quick working!

Your order has been dispatched as of the actual 'Ship Date' indicated. Orders generally reach their destination within 2-5 working days of the actual ship date.
Chances are it'll be here this week, double yay!

Re: Just ordered my first laptop!

This is all good but you are now at the mercy of Walsh Western.. they get about 1 in 10 deliveries right (drastic overestimation i'm sure) ..my laptop was never more than a 25 minute drive from me for about 6 days though... I wasn't happy.

    Good Luck

Re: Just ordered my first laptop!

Uh oh, you're right! It's not with Walsh Western. The majority of delivery people have trouble finding my place so this sounds precarious. Walsh Western website says it's departed EMF and has an ETA of 21/11/2007.
