    FSB:DRAM ratio. 5:4?

Just got my new rig up and running. (see "my system"). Only problem is that in my bios I can't find where to set the ratio. I know that the cpu is easily capable of 3.5ghz. I left it on that in orthos for 4 hours, but i had to run the ram at 1000mhz. I loosened the timings to 6-6-6-18 bu there were errors detected by memtest. The only problem is that the p5k deluxe's bios won't let me set the memory clock below the fsb. How can i set up a 5:4 ratio so that my ram runs at 800mhz while the cpu is at 3.5ghz? The options for ram the bios gives me are all above or equal to the fsb.

EDIT~I must say that i really wish i had got an e6750 due to the higher multiplier.

Or faster RAM...I don't think you can do anything about this apart from not OC so high to stop getting errors.

Hmmm. Very reasonably priced. I'd snap some up now if i weren't £50 in debt.

    Re: FSB:DRAM ratio. 5:4?

I'm pretty surprised that your current memory won't do DDR2-1000.

I've been able to get most promos and micron D9 ratted at DDR2-800 well past DDR2-1000, sometimes past DDR2-1150.

    What voltage are you using?

Its running on the stock voltage for my ram which is 2.1v. Do you suggest I up it to 2.2?

    Re: FSB:DRAM ratio. 5:4?

Oookay i'm getting tired and i must go to bed. I'll up the voltage to 2.2v and run the ram at 1000mhz under memtest overnight.

EDIT~Bah, error at 21%. Lowering fsb to 475 and trying again.

    Re: FSB:DRAM ratio. 5:4?

    Depends on the chips.

My D9 Ballistix seem to be ok with 2.3-2.4 as a max voltage.

I killed a set of Super Talent that used promos chips with only 2.25v.

    Re: FSB:DRAM ratio. 5:4?

i have them running at 970mhz, 5-5-5-15 and 2.2v. They seem to be ok after 20% coverage but unfortunately i had to go to school so i'll check if they are ok when i get back.

    Re: FSB:DRAM ratio. 5:4?

too low! I've just got 100% coverage, no errors with memtest @ 1000mhz, 6-7-7-20, 2.2v. Will try to tighten timings.

    Re: FSB:DRAM ratio. 5:4?

2.3V is great, but be wary about putting more juice in there

Can you do a simple benchmark. Any game will do (though better if you can do two or three diff tests) See if 500MHz, 6-6-6-18 is faster then say 450Mhz with 5-5-5-15.

You might be suprised. Some times the latencies can make all the difference, and you will find slower speeds and tighter timings give better framerates. Other times it makes f*ck all difference, so stick with 500MHz and loosen the timings.

Only good benchmarking can tell you what's best for your system. (and this is where 3Dmark comes into its own - when you are benchmarking against your own changes)
