how hot is dangerous for my Q6600?

running it at 3.6ghz atm with 2.0 ram voltage and 1.48 vcore...
its around 46's max and then it hit 62 on load...
wondered whats a bad temp...
this way i can get better fans etc if needed.

If thats 62 under full load for a few hours then that is pretty much what you want. Don't go any higher if you can help it. is the vcore as low as it will go?

full load.erm just got it tonite and I'm experimenting.have to same though its blown my tits off compared to my old 2.2ghz oc'ed xp-m 1gb ram beast...

If it's hitting 62C now then what will it hit on a hot summers day?
Just be prepared to dial it back when ambient temperatures rise..

I'm surprised that 60C is considered a tad hot. I've got my E6600 running at 3Ghz at that temp while folding 24/7 and thought that 60C was fine.

...a core in a Q6600 G0 can take temps for short periods of time up to 100.C (the max "Junction" temp). Over that - even if only briefly - and you risk the CPU being permanently screwed. The datasheet says that in general, the case temp should not exceed ~70 degrees.

(The above numbers are all different if you've got a older Q6600 - i.e. a B3 stepping)

when you say load, do you mean playing games/working or a CPU intensive test programme?

I hit 95.C once when i got home from travelling from MK to Bristol i started my computer up for about 20mins and it started to crash like a mofo so i was like wtf wtf wtf then i checked the BIOS and i noticed my CPU was 95.C so i course i was like ARHHH and switched the comp off checked the heatsink and found it wasnt secured on the CPU properly and the stupid plastic mounting clips had popped out. Im now using one which is like bolted to the mobo.

62c seems rather low for air and 1.48v, try reading your cpu temp with core temp 0.96.1

Yeah, use CoreTemp, and if your temps are not over 60 you'll probably be fine.

To judge worse case scenario, use Prime95, and set it stress testing. If you can run for an hour or more, at around 60C and with no errors, you should be fine

Note that (unless things have changed since I last used it), you'll need to run four instances of the stress test to properly stress test your quad.

what would you guys say for the maximum range between cores?
i experience a 5 degree difference between pairs of cores 0&1 and 2&3 (so 2&3 run 5 degrees higher on average than 0&1)

I wouldn't like to say a max but I wouldn't be impressed if they were more than 8 apart.

I run all four cores at 100% for most of the time. The temp on Core1 is always highest and varies between 58 and 62. Probably down to the ambient despite having AC. This is on default voltage. I can't say that I've seen much diff in the temps caused by clock speed. Suspect that voltage is the key factor. Case is not best for cooling either, being chosen for size, noise, first.

The variance can be due to a few things. If you use a thermalright Extreme it is usually down to a slightly concave/convex contact.

The B3 I had ran about 5 degree's apart as does my mates G0.
