Could someone recommend me a travel laptop please?

Well it's a minefield I really don't know what I should be looking at here.

Basically I'm going away for 3 weeks in 2 months so was looking for a small, thin portable laptop with a long battery life, it also needs to be cheap (I'm not asking for much )

It will be mainly for surfing in hotels etc, but I'll probably load a few low memory games, e,g Football Manager which I can play on the plane and on the go etc.

I've got no idea what to go for, I don't really want to spend over 400 quid either and small is good so I can move it easily and keep it in a backpack.

I've seen this which looks ok but I'd maybe like something a bit smaller?
Acer Aspire 3105WLMi LX.AX60Y.297 From Laptops Direct

    Anyone got any idea's ?

    Thanks in advance

If you can sacrifice the gaming aspect then how about the asus Eee range? Priced from 200-240, they have very low specs so run linux but are extremely small and cheap

    Asus Eee 512DDR2 4GBSSD HDD

If the laptop is just for travelling around and quick surfing these things are ideal

    specs are 1.2 GHz
    256 MB ram
    1024x768 display
    750 MB HD space

How much disk space does FM take up? That's the other possible fly in the Eee's ointment. Oh, and the fact that it runs Linux.

Otherwise look on EBay, there are usually some good deals on Dells. Like this one: New Dell Laptop Computer -1gb RAM WiFi DVDrw Vista on eBay, also, Laptops, Computing (end time 24-Feb-08 17:56:46 GMT)

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

how cheap? The above is £525ish on scans today only. Not bad for the price.

Personally I would get something like this (it's a refurb but with a year of dell warranty)
    MCS Technology Ltd > (MLN045) Dell Inspiron XPS M1210 Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz 2048mb/120gb/12.1" Wide XGA TrueLife™ Screen with Integrated 2.0MP Webcam/DVD-RW Drive/Wireless Network

Add VAT to the price it's still a very good price for a nice bit of kit.

There's load of options on that site though
    MCS Technology Ltd > (693) Dell Latitude D620 Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0ghz 2048mb/80gb/14" Wide XGA Screen/DVD-RW Drive/Quadro NVS 110M/Wireless Network

slightly bigger but a nice spec.

I understood that the Eee could run XP (think it was on tomsharware), you can also bang a flash disk in it for much more storage.

Re: Could someone recommend me a travel laptop please?

Sainsburys had a 14" screen Medion based on an AMD TL-50 processor in our local shop for under £400. Should be a bit lighter than the 15.4" that kinkladze10 linked to in the OP, it's cheap and ought to have enough power to do what he wants, if there're any available locally. I THINK it had 2GB RAM and about 120GB hard disk but I could be wrong.

I don't know if they are any good, but i believe they are popular; the Dell Vostro (they do 14" and 15.4")
You can get one for about £350 inc VAT & shipping.

Try dell's outlet on ebay, they are refurbs but are as good as new.
I got 1 last year and has worked perfectly for just over half the cost.
