Re: Corsair, their surge protection and a fryed PC.

Everything arrived today, both HDDs, the CD drive and 4 new cables from corsair, so im in a good mood. Once again corsair have been fantastic throughout this and i couldnt have asked for more!

Just proof that its worth paying a little extra for good customer support. Cant see myself looking anywhere else for PSUs or ram in the future!

Will pm Yellowbeard now & ask if he knows what went wrong.

Nice one Corsair - I already recommend your company to people, and with support like that, I'll be even happier to continue doing so.

Re: Corsair, their surge protection and a fryed PC.

It wouldn't have anything to do with the 110v over in the US and surge protection doesn't protect this kind of fault since there wasn't a surge as such, because there was some sort of burning involved it's safe to assume the voltage stayed around the same, if there was bang and no burning that would imply a large voltage change where the surge protection would kick in.

That SATA cable wired to the PCI-E power!? That could be the problem! If the 12v was fed to the GND that would have created a huge current capable of turning wire red hot and burning plastic!

Re: Corsair, their surge protection and a fryed PC.

Technically, it was not a faulty cable. Customer Service had a mix up and sent you a cable from our new HX-1000 PSUs. It uses different cables from the other HX series drives with the 6 pin plug to power the SATA drives. Unfortunately, that same plug only fits the PCI-e headers on the HX-520/620 PSUs. This means that plug sent 12v down the 5v line on drives and cooked the controller boards.

We have already taken steps to ensure this never happens again. Sorry you were the victim here and thank you for your understanding and pleasant attitude. Thank you to all of you in this thread for allowing us time to work this out.

    Indeed!
At the end of the day accidents have, and will always happen. Its how they are dealt with that counts in this game

Funny sort of pirate that Yellowbeard. I mean that's excellent customer service, but where's the parrot?

Budget cuts, we had to let him go

Just FYI, the pic is actually Graham Chapman and I don't actually have a beard.

Re: Corsair, their surge protection and a fryed PC.

This is what good CS is all about
A mistake was made (it happens to everyone now and again) but here it's admitted to as a mistake, no atempt is made to pass the buck and the warranty is upheld beound what is legally required.
Granted there would of been a good case against corsair if they had fought it and it had gone to small claims court.
However the way they didn't even "try it on" gets a big plus in my book

Well done Corsair and Yellowbeard, I'm glad this error has got caught eairly and hopefully will not happen again.

Well this is reassuring. Makes me even more pleased with my last PSU purchase.

I dont mean to bump such an old thread, but can this please be moved to the Corsair section and have ''(a happy ending)'' added onto the thread name.

Realised last night (dreaming about PSUs, probably not a good sign) that i never did ask for it to be moved, and i figure customer service this good needs to be advertised to the people who are likely to use/buy from them in the near future!

    thanks
